Hi all,

Can anyone remember the name of the old sitcom where David Kelly plays
a character with one arm ?? (David Kelly is the skinny Irish guy in
Waking Ned Devine)

He wasn't a main character in the show I don't think. I think he just
cropped up as one of the locals in a pub or something, but I can't say
for sure. I definitely remember him sitting there with one empty
sleeve pinned to his jacket though.

Thanks in advance. This has got everyone here stumped :)

Robin's Nest, starring Richard O Sullivan and Tessa
Wyatt, I believe. It was a spin-off from Man About
the House, and involved Robin Tripp running a bijou
restaurant somewhere in London. This is all from
memory, incidentally, there are probably web pages
devoted to this stuff.

I looked at my body last night. I had once had a hunky
six-pack, but I discovered last night that sometime during
the 90's it had turned into a party-seven.

David's character in Robin's Nest was 'Albert', the show also featured
that other great bastion of comedy (?) Tony Britton.

Thanks. I've found his name in the credits for this show. I don't
remember him in it though, although it's a long time ago and I didn't
see many episodes anyway. His character was called Albert Riddle
apparently. Do you remember what role he played in the show ?? Was he
a customer maybe ??

thanks again
Steve

He played the chef's assistant. Robin Tripp (Richard O
Sullivan) was the main chef, supposedly pretty hot stuff,
his wife (Tessa Wyatt) helped with the seving. Albert
was a sort of cooks helper, waiter, washer-upper, and
was always getting into scrapes, especially with Tony
Britton, who played Robin's father-in-law who owned part
of the restuarant.

It was repeated on UK Gold a couple of years ago, I seem
to recall.

David Kelly I recall was also in an episode of Fawlty Towers, playing a
'cowboy' joiner. He played a character called O'Reilly and got hit with a
brolly by Sybil. At the end, Basil was venturing out to shove a gnome up
his @&*!%".

The episode is The Builders.

Just for the record, David Kelly is still acting in Sit-Com - "Upwardly
Mobile" for RTE - 32 Episode to date. He plays a grumpy, mad and talkative
Publican - IMHO brilliantly!

Was 'Man About The House' the only sitcom to have two further sitcoms spin
off from it? As well as 'Robin's Nest', there was also 'George & Mildred'.
Surely this must be a record?

well the young ones took a unique spin on the concept of spin offs and spun the
same story through three other series.

Happy Days had 3 sit-coms spun off from it, actually. Mork adn Mindy,
Laverne & Shirley and the understandably forgettable Joanie Loves Chachie.

"Man About The House" (1973) begat "Tre på toppen" (????) - Norwegian remake
"Man About The House" (1973) begat "George and Mildred" (1976) - UK spin off
"George and Mildred" (1976) begat George and Mildred (1980) - the movie
"Man About The House" (1973) begat "Robin's Nest" (1977) - UK spin off
"Three's Company" (1977) and/or "George and Mildred" (1976) begat "The Ropers" (1979)
