Just as trivia question. What ever happened to Dee Stewart (Ellens
daughter) I remember her on the show when she was played by our
favorite actress, Glynnis O'Connor. Why doesn't Ellen ever mention
her?

Sullys,

Good histrivia question! Dee Stewart(she was born "Dawn") is the
daughter of Ellen and the late David and is the
former wife of John Dixon. They were divorced after she pressed
charges of spousal rape against her possesive husband. Dee should
have taken some tips from Lorena! She was also romantically involved
with Brad Hollister, Ian MacFarland(who died while having sex with
her), and James Stenbeck. Like her niece Emily, her low self esteem
kept her involved in bad relationships. She was always a little
jealous of her successful doctor sister, Annie. She became the
president of the Stewart Mining Company until the mining explosion ended
the industry in Oakdale.(The Stewart's had discovered coal under their
vacation property in the mountains.) She moved to New York City
around 1982 to work as an editor for Flair modeling magazine. She has
returned to Oakdale twice since then- once in 1986 for the fiftieth
wedding anniversary celebration of Nancy and Chris Hughes and again
for her father's funeral in 1991. I have no earthly idea why Ellen
rarely mentions any of her family members except for Emily. In fact,
she hasn't mentioned any of them since the funeral. Keep an eye out
for tomorrow's ARCHIVES posting where I'll talk about the many
actresses that have played Dee.

A correction on this information. The Stewart family discovered
silver ore under their Lake front vacation property. The Stewart
Mining Company and its competitor, the Hollister Mining Company
continued to mine and process the silver until the mine cave-in
disaster which killed Hollister vice-president, Jay Stallings.

Also as promised here is a list of the actresses that have played the
part of Dee Stewart:

Simone Schacter 1971
Jean Mazza 1972-73
Glynnis O'Connor 1973
Marcia McClain 1976-78
Heather Cunningham 1980
Jacqueline Schultz 1981-82
Vicky Dawson 1982-83

Child actress Jean Mazza switched roles to play Dee and had played
sister Annie from 1969-70. As with many children of this Oakdale
generation like Dan, Paul, and Annie Stewart as well as Tom Hughes,
Dee seemed to grow up overnight. This changed in the late seventies
and eighties and now children seem to age in realistic time. I
certainly don't remember when Glynnis O'Connor played Dee and thank
goodness it was only for a few months. Marcia McClain was probably
the last of the brunette Dees. She can be remembered for playing a
chubby teenaged Dee who worked as a receptionist at the Lowell,
Hughes, and Colman law firm and was jealous of her sister's
boyfriends. Jacqueline Schultz is the famous Dee who was having sex
with the internationally famous music composer Ian McFarland when he
died of a heartattack in Rome. She also played Dee when she married
Ian's cardiologist, Dr. John Dixon. Jacqueline left the show to become
Mrs. Larry Bryggman who plays John. Vicky Dawson played Dee when Dee
fell in love with the dangerous criminal, James Stenbeck once again to
the chagrin of her father and family. There are similarities between
Dee and her niece, Emily. Vicky has reprised the role twice since she
left in 1983.
