LAURA SIMMONS SIGHTING

Bess Armstrong, the actress who played Laura Simmons back in
1988 appeared last Thursday night in the premiere of the new teenage
dramatic series, "My So-Called Life." She plays the role of the
baby-boomer mom, quite concerned about her daughter's obsessive crush.

Laura Simmons was the sister of folk-singer Beau Farrell and
the insane babysitter of Christopher Hughes. Her fatal attraction for
father Bob ended in her institutionalization.

Bill

"...As the world turns, we know the bleakness of winter, the promise
of spring, the fullness of summer, and the harvest of autumn... the
cycle of life is completed... What is true of nature is also true of
[people]. [They] too [have] a cycle."

I thought that Carolyn ??? played Laura -- the same actress who played Lesley
Ann Monroe on GL years ago. She was a nurse who was buddies with Hillary Bauer
and Katie Parker. She eventually married sleazy hospital administrator Warren
Andrews and died of the dreaming death.

I could be dreaming myself, and I certainly am not trying to start anything,
but I could swear I remembered her playing wacky Laura.

I am not sure if someone has already posted about this, as I have been
out of reach of netnews a lot this summer, so apologies if this is old
news:

I just saw the film _Spanking the Monkey_ in New York, and who should
be playing the overbearing, adulterous father but Benjamin
Hendrickson, aka our favorite of Yuckdale's finest Hal Munson! He is
wonderful in the part, a real scumbag control freak. The movie, in
case you have not heard about it, is a exercise in cinematic tension
and pain, but definitely worth seeing.

Dad,

It was nice to see you actually taking an interest in me the other day.
And for a moment there i actually thought you might be sincere. But then
(so as not to disappoint) you began to go on and on about Kristin. It
was Kristin this and Kristin that. Kristin, Kristin, Kristin. Well, I
would appreciate it if in the future you did not use me in your little
schemes to lure married women away from thier husbands. It really
hurts. It is especially painful to know that you care more about a woman
whom you have known for little more than a year, more than your own son.
I can not take much more of this! I am sorry to inform you that i am
going to live with Grandpa Victor until Mom comes to get me (And i mean
my REAL mother, not that Kristin woman, I will never call her mother.
Never! Never! Never!) I just can not handle the emotional strain of
being your son for another day.

Brady Victor

Dear Mrs. Horton

I am writting you out of my consern for my sister Belle and for the other
children of Salem. We are worried about having Sammi as a babysitter at
the Horton shelter. Now, I like my mother always try to find the good in
people, But Sammi has not demonstrated any desire to change. I saw her
just the other day stealing money from the grandparents. And when i
asked her how Shawn douglas got lost she refuesed to answer me. Worse
still is her past record. I am sure you are aware that she tried to sell
little Belle. If she would sell her own sister, heavne knows what else
she would do. On behalf of myself and all the other childern in Salem i
would ask that you reconsider your desision (I know i need that hooked on
spelling tape) and not hire Sammi. Or at the very least, have her under
adult supervision at all times. Oh yeah, i would like to recommend
against Kristin being that adult. Just the other day when she put me down
for a nap, she just dropped in in bad and left, didn't tuck me in, read
me a story, no "sleep tight", nothing! Not exactly the sign of a loving
parent.

Thanks for listening,
Victor Brady

You're right...Laura was played by the former Leslie Anne.
Bess Armstrong has pretty much stuck to film and night time
television over the years.

Dear Brady Victor:

Now don't worry about a thing, dear. I've got my eye on Samantha and
I promise not to leave her unsupervised with you children. She's not
even 18 yet and will always be working with a responsible adult. In
fact I'm more concerned about her being in the kitchen than in the
nursery. None the less, I will honor your wishes and will make every
attempt to keep Samantha busy elsewhere. She has a lot of potential.

Brady, dear, I am beginning to see that you may have some unexpressed
feelings about losing your mother that are coming out in your open
hostility toward Kristen. Of course, dear, I'm not a psychologist,
but I'm sure Dr. Abby could help you with this. I suggest you talk
to her.

I have always found Kristen to be a fine and sensitive young woman
in all her dealings with Tom and me. I just haven't seen the Kristen
you're describing.

I've been planning to contact all the children to see when they will
be moving in. Please try to give me at least one week's notice. I'm
not as young as I used to be.

Love,
FDOC Mrs. Alice Horton

(Marcy Baker Hartman)
