Familiar Face:
There's nothing like young love, and AS THE WORLD TURNS's Courtney and Andy
are living proof. On Wednesday October 7, (which was yesterday so this isn't
much of a spoiler) the couple shares a lingering kiss. Meanwhile, Bob and
Susan are in for a big surprise. On Monday, October 12, they come face to
face with someone from their past.
My Guess: I think it's TONIO REYES!!!!!! Especially since Bob and Sabrina
were talking about him one day. FORESHADOWING!!
And, in the Who's coming/Who's going section:
Who's going? Parker Posey (Tess Shelby): Thanks to a storyline dictated
decision, Posey's last air date was September 4. "Posey was wonderful to
work with", says an ATWT spokesperson. "Although the role of Tess was her
first job out of school, it certainly won't be her last. Everyone feels
confident that this young woman will do very well".
My Opinion: I'm kind of sorry to see her go. She made a good bitch. The
kind of character you love to hate. I would have liked to have
seen her stick around to cause more trouble between Hutch and
Rosanna. But I guess we have Evan to do that now. But it would
have been interesting to see Tess and Evan team up and do nasty
things.
And in the Thumbs up/Thumbs down section:
Thumbs up:
Back in business: AS THE WORLD TURNS:
Even during its slow periods, and the last year and a half was one of them -
AS THE WORLD TURNS is an engrossing, well acted, solidly crafted hour. When
it's really moving, this show is in a class by itself. And these days, ATWT
is cooking.
In a matter of weeks, Lily had a miscarriage; Holden had an accident that
resulted in his memory loss; Frannie had a dramatic confrontation with
Darryl; and Margo was raped by a man who is HIV positive. All four of these
events hurtled compelling stories forward for months and added new spins to
previously sleepy relationships.
Lily and Holden haven't had romantic chemistry since Heather Rattray took
over the role of Lily. By veering in a different direction with the Lily/
Holden story, Rattray and Jon Hensley's (Holden) considerable talents can
be put to more effective use. Both actors are showing a vibrancy we haven't
seen in some time. (My note: HUH????? Lily's been moaning and whining for
months and Holden's had that goofy look on his face for months. Is this
vibrancy???)
Mary Ellen Stuart is shining these days too (My note: Again, HUH????), as
Frannie finally gets suspicious of her slippery husband. Is her charge that
Darryl (Rex Smith) is a murderer true, or, as everyone else in town seems
to believe, is Frannie losing her grip? The normally supersensible Frannie
grappling with the doubts of her family and friends, as well as her
shattering disillusionment with Darryl, has added dimension to Oakdale's
all-American girl.
And the Margo/Tom story is drama at its best. (My opinion: I agree) The
horrifying brutality of the rape was the catalyst for events that will impact
this once-happy couple for some time to come. Leave it to ATWT to portray
the horror of rape, a story admirably presented on several other soaps, and
press further.
These days, missing an episode of ATWT could be a big mistake.
Enjoy,
