NOTES

(1) - On "AW", John raped Donna when they were teenagers -- that was the story
as it originally unfolded to us. Of course, later on, for the purposes of
that positively GHASTLY Michael/Donna/John triangle in '87, and because John
is supposed to be such a likable guy, the writers amended it to a consensual
encounter. One of AW's less sterling moments, all around.

(2) - Kayla was married to Jack at the time, but the marriage was a marriage
in name only & they was no question about whether it was a rape or not. Jack
plea bargained to a lesser charge & did some community service.

(3) - Jennifer was married to Lawrence at the time, but the marriage was a
marriage in name only & she was impersonating Katarina L. (aka Dr. Carly
Manning) so there could be a valid question as to whether they were really
married, plus there was no question about whether it was a rape or not.
Lawrence did some easy jail time with business as usual for him.

(4) - Laura & Bill had been in love & engaged before he left for awhile only
to return & find her married to his big brother, Mickey. One night at the
hospital, in the doctor's on call room, a drunken Bill raped Laura (resulting
in the conception of Mike). Later, they tried to make it a sorta rape, a
seduction, etc.

(5) - Susan was raped by (her fiance) Greg's brother Eric in the park. Later
they made her recant & decide that she had dreamed the rape as some sort of
wish fulfillment or something.

(6) - Marley's rape was not marital rape because she & Jake were divorced when
it happened.

What kind & quantity of misogyny does this show about DAYS that we can name
all of these rapes so quickly & with so much variety that we have to have
categories!!

More info? Anyone?

I made no further reply to this because what would've been my reply magically
appeared here from Garlic. Good catch.

Thanks, Sarah. Great! Now, I think there are even more AW rapes. A little bird
is tickling my e-mail ear naming Brittany & 2 others. Any ideas here?

I was watching then. I loved Denise Alexander almost as much as I love Susan
Seaforth. And, it was an assault & rape at night in the park. No question
about it. Eric was played very dark, odd, wanted to be a writer. He probably
was swarthy & ethnic but that wouldn't have mattered except his brother, Dr.
Greg Peters was played by this Ken-doll type of guy. They did a reversal &
rewrite & it was pretty lame. Seems that it got uncomfortable that she had
been raped by her fiance's brother. Gee, does that seem familiar?

Tess's husband's only name was Speed? Oh, brother! Well, once we have a catchy
gang name, I guess we don't need our other old names, huh? Can I count on you
that that is the correct spelling of it, Selejko, I mean?

Thanks.

Here we have a conflict. One ratser said the above, but another thinks that:

To my knowledge they never rewrote the rape into being consensual. Maybe
you're confusing the length of time between the show revealing the rape in a
flashback and the M/D/J triangle starting. There was only about a 2 week
difference. When John became a likeable guy it was well after this
triangle, and the rape just wasn't mentioned from then on.

Anyone want to wade in on it?

I asked my little e-mail bird, "Who raped Clarice?" And, was told, "Jerry
Grove, in some kind of schizophrenic fit."

Some people have asked about this Larry Atwood & Julie's rape.

Larry Atwood, a short-time character who may have had a physical resemblance
to Victor K. was a middle-aged guy with a moustache who was played by Fred
Bier in 1977-78. He played a hoodlum & club owner in competition with Doug &
Julie's club. The liquor license on Doug & Julie's club was revoked. Larry
Atwood began to lure their singers away. Their business was suffering. It
seems that it was Larry who had gotten their license revoked, but he
graciously offered to get it back for them if Julie would sleep with him.
(This in spite of the fact that we thought he really wanted to take over
Doug's Place.) Julie refused. So, he raped her. When he was found dead a few
days later, she was naturally accused of the murder, but Larry's henchman,
Arlo, confessed. Julie opened an antique shop with her cad of a big brother,
Steve.

No. He abducted her, held her prisoner on an island in a hurricane or
similar weather event, and forced her to wear a wedding dress, but he did
not rape her. (Although wasn't part of her storyline the fact that she had
been raped by her mother's boyfriend, and this sent Dr Glaser over the edge?)

Wading. Count me on the "GHASTLY" side. I will check the archives, but my
recollection is that the flashback (revealed in a session with Dr Glaser,
aka the Sin Stalker) portrayed the incident as rape (Donna said "no" but
John forced her down on the floor of the car), but Donna was subsequently
forced to admit that it hadn't been rape because she had *wanted* John.

Certainly John was never obliged to come to terms with the idea that he had
raped Donna.

Who was Lisa Grady's Mother? I know she is Felicia's Neice?
But I don't remember Felicia ever having a brother or sister?

Does anyone ever mention Lisa anymore? I don't remember
her reason for leaving town. Just that it was after being
so upset with Jamie about Vicky.

Technically, she left town because of a job, but the situation with Jamie
and Victoria (and Steven) was the real reason she took the job. If I'm not
mistaken, she wanted to become a lawyer or a paralegal and took a job in
London. Why anyone wishing to learn the American judicial system would
go to work in Britain is a mystery to me. They have conveniently
forgotten her despite the fact that she is the only blood relative of
Felicia's that we have seen.

Oh, and I agree with the complaints about the wardrobe on AW recently,
but even in hospital scrubs Donna looked gorgeous...:)
