Debbie's last name was/is Simon (Ned Simon's daughter... Ned being Emma
Snyder's author friend)
Duke's last name was/is Dixon. He is John's son and a half(?) brother
to Andy and to Margo(?).

Sorry to snip, but I won't be able to post this much test. Some others
that I can remember offhand are:

Darryl Crawford
Angel Snyder
Lyla Montgomery
Casey (married to Lyla and died)
Alexander Cabot

This is fun. I'll try to think of more when I have more time.

Let's see, how about

Antonio
Cricket Montgomery (Margo & Craig's sister)
Gunner Stenbeck (married to Barbara, half brother to James)
Don Hughes and his wife Mary (they moved to Laramie and spawned Ryder)
Penny Hughes (moved to England)
David Stewart (Ellen's husband, died tragically while working for the
CDC in Atlanta)
Annie Stewart (had quadruplets and vanished)
Dee Stewart (John Dixon married her and kept her locked up in their
apartment for awhile)
Dan Stewart (married Susan and spawned Emily)
Courtney and her brother Sean (he fell in love with Annie and went nuts
didn't he?)
Duncan and Shannon (and some woman who shrunk Shannon's head - Lillith?)
Earl (wasn't he Shannon's Uncle/Father and either married to or sleeping
with Lisa?)
Michael Shea (married to Lisa)
Chris Hughes
Dusty (didn't he turn out to be John's kid too?)

Please let me know if I've got any of this wrong.

Franny and Barbara's mother, Kim's sister--her name was Jennifer Ryan.
BTW, Barbara also has a brother named Rick Ryan, who was a young doctor,
quite troubled, and he had a real thing against Dr. Bob (partially because
of his mother's relationship with Bob, but I think it started before that).

Bob was married once to a French woman--her name was Miranda or
something like that.

And John was married at one time to a younger woman with blonde hair--
her name is on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember it. She was
also involved in some way with James Stenbeck. She was a conniver.

Carol, red-head, once married (or at least engaged) to Tom.

Holly, played by Dana Delaney.

Has anyone mentioned Ariel? Married to John too at one time.

Duke's last name wasn't Dixon when he came on to the show and I'm not
sure he ever changed it. When John first found out that he had a son he
was called Ian "Duke" Cramer.

I think that would be Karen Haines. She was married to James Stenbeck,
and then to John. I seem to recall that when she left John she went off
to law school in California, but the 40th Anniversary book doesn't say.
Anybody remember? If so, she could return!

Entire list was great, but just wanted to say ICAM about the talented
people above from your list. I think the actors who played Jeff Hamlin
and Lamar Griffin both would have made great long term character. Even
with their limited roles their talent was evident.

And I had completely forgotten about Janice Maxwell, she was a real
scene stealer! I really enjoyed those days when she was manipulating
everyone in town, she was terrific!

I also liked Pilar, and Bronson Pickett who played Diego. With their
distinctive looks and acting talent they should be on someone's soap
in the future... at least I hope so. :)

Thanks for the reminders...

Hank (last name?) was the gay man, whose lover died of AIDS. I believe
he was a breakthrough character on the soaps. He was definitely one of
the first gay characters on a soap. He went to live in New York City
after his lover died. Hank did not get AIDS. TPTB could
bring him back to the soap, if they wanted to. The last we
knew, Hank was still alive and healthy.

For a while, we were lead to believe that Hank was a heterosexual.
Actually, it was kind of like the ABC prime-time television show
"Ellen", where we really didn't know.

It was just assumed that Hank was heterosexual, by most of Oakdale.
Iva was very attracted to him, but was shocked to learn of his
preference. She was falling in love with Hank, but he was only friends
towards her. When she found out he was gay, she took it real well
considering the situation.

This reminds me that ATWT used this and all of their plot twists real
well back then. It would always come as a surprise, with few people
knowing the outcome. It almost made you gasp at the tv screen, for you
had little notice of the plot twist. Now, almost nothing is a secret.

Hank was handsome and he got noticed by several Oakdale women, at least
until he came out. He hung around the Snyder pond, as did most of the
cast back then. Even after he came out, some Oakdale women did admire
his good looks, but from afar. He was a masculine straight-acting gay
man, not a feminine-acting gay man.

Hank was just one of the guys, even after he came out. After some
initial shock and distancing, the people of Oakdale were remarkably
accepting of Hank. This was in part because Hank had a very nice
personality. He treated people fairly equally, like he wanted to be
treated. This is not to say that his outing didn't cause a stir.
It helped that the whole cast knew him well before he announced it.
I don't know whether or not the actor was gay in real-life or not,
but I don't think he was gay.

Hank was a designer and worked with Barbara in her fashion house. I
bet you only thought that B&B had fashion houses? ATWT did too. I
believe it was before B&B started. Olivia was a fashion designer rival,
bankrolled by Barbara's nemesis, Lucinda Walsh. Olivia was a fashion
designer (hack) hired after Lucinda stole Barbara's fashion house out
from under her.

When Barbara went to prison, Lucinda took over her company. She
refused to give Barbara's company back. Then Barbara started her
fashion house all over again. The original business was named "Barbara
Ryan Originals" (BRO). "Simply Barbara" was created by Barbara to
compete with her previously owned company.

I mourned the loss of Carly from the show, for there was a potential to
return to the fashion house rivalries once again. I still think that
ATWT does the fashion business far better than B&B. More realistic,
IMHO. Too bad Maura West decided to take a permanent maternity leave.
We could have had the "Get Real" line compete with "Simply Barbara."

How is that for remembering all of this from my memory? I'm not
looking at anything. This thread is really toning my memory muscle.
Its like taking my brain to the gym to work it out. My ATWT memory
muscle is getting buffed. :-)

One of the Lamars died several months ago. I am ashamed to admit
that I don't remember which one, but I believe it was the replacement
actor, not the one with the Shakesperean training (honest) who was such
an
incredibly underused actor and dreadfully underwritten character.

In time-honored soap fashion, Jay turned out to be Whit McColl's
illegitimate son by his housekeeper.

I can't remember his name, but before Steve married Betsy he
shared a house with a man who was later dating Heather, who then
became somewhat involved with Joel Higgins before she left to become
a singing star somewhere. (Probably the same tour that Lila has
been
on for three years.) The housemate went on to play Trucker (?) on
some
other soap.

Maggie, Lila's sister
Frank Andropolous, Steve's cousin and the man they both loved
Cal, the ex-con and father of the baby Maggie adopted

Harriet Corbman, Shannon's rich bag lady friend

I know there are lots more, but I am drawing a blank.

My impressions on a few lost characters:

Dani Andropolous: much more interesting than Ryder and Nikki and she had
history, but they kept writing her into the ground.

T. Jones: "Only I, superagent extraordinaire, can find your child Mr.
Hughes. I love you, Mark. Ooops, I'm dead."

Renee Greenwood: Remember her? A young attractive blonde who was a
member of Nancy Hughes church group and kidnapped Casey because she
couldn't get over the death of her own son. No room for character
development there.

Rik Hamlin: "Hello, Mr Vaughn. Goodbye Mr. Vaughn." And how did he know
Lucinda's real name?

Jef Hamlin: I can't believe this gorgeous guy, friend of Holden's and
original character was used merely as fodder for Emily.

Martin: I hated this character, but wasn't he supposed to be Lucinda's
first love?

Janice Maxwell: They've sent so many characters to jail since then and
no one has run into her. And whatever happened to WOAK-TV? Has Kim ever
hired a replacement? Does the replacement have a sex life?

Ray and Lee Tenney: This couple was so messed up they must have been
interesting. I know they were supposed to be deeply depressed losers
and Ray was always in love with Lee's sister, but maybe they had a son
running around somewhere, maybe that's why they stayed together. And Lee
was Roseanna's aunt too. Roseanna could have asked her a few questions
about Sheila. (And there would have been hostility.)

Carly and Roseanna: I guess after you've loved Mike Kasnoff you must be
written off. And what about Carly and Scott--they could have worked..

Pilar Domingo: "I am juz ere to speak in a funny assent and be
bootifool and trajique bevore running back to Europe. De sparks will fly
wit mike kasnov but ee iss leevin so i too muz go" (I'm assuming she
hasn't come back.)

Jeremy Wheeler: " God, I like that kid," says Tom. Good, Tom, so why
don't you send him to boarding school and make sure he never comes back
for vacations. And for goodness sake's, don't let him try to find out
about his father or anything.

Bettina Grimaldi: She never said anything. She can't remember anything.
Maybe it's good they wrote her off. And it's not like Lily should have

Paul, Zoe, Sarah: These don't count. They were horrible. They should

Susan Batten.

Elliot Markham: He was funny. And he's not dead. Lisa, Lucy, Emma were
all there waiting for him...

Edwina, Connor, Evan: The inimitable straw that broke the camel's back,

His name was Kirt McColl, who was played by Christian LeBlanc, who was
and is back on Y&R as Michael Baldwin. I remember Soap Opera Digest had
him and Marcie on the cover in the mid-80's. He was wearing a cool
sweater and I have no idea why I remember this!

Marcie eventually hooked up with some prince, or count, or something and
left town.

I think that she was referred to as Jennifer Ryan. Why is Barbara's
maiden name Ryan and why does her brother also have the last name of
Ryan?

Who was Jennifer married to that had the last name of Ryan? By the
way, wasn't Barbara's brother named Rick?

Is that it for the Ryan bunch, or are there more? Of course, any
answer you give will probably change in the future, as we have seen with
the recent increase in James Stenbeck and Lucinda Walsh offsprings.

The earliest actual story I remember, not just people talking,
is Penny and Ellen (who I believe were still in high school) sneaking
cigarettes in Penny's room and Nancy coming in and almost catching
them. Yes, hard as it is to believe, Ellen was once young enough to

We've all forgotten about Ellie Snyder. As
usual, my memory on details is a little fuzzy,

I think they were at a party/picnic at the Snyder

She ended up marrying Kirk eventually, and

Actually, Jennifer's (and Kim's) maiden name was Sullivan. (She's
listed in "the book" as Jennifer Sullivan Ryan Hughes.) Back in the
early 60's, Dr. Chuck Ryan was a good friend of Dr. Bob. He (Chuck) left
town and married Jennifer and produced Barbara and Rick.
BTW Kim's name is listed as: Kim Sullivan Reynolds Dixon Stewart
Andropolous Hughes.

No, Steve Andropoulis' dad turned out to be some guy working for

I think John was married to Karen when the whole Stenbeck thing happened.
I do believe it was Dee that John raped. Wasn't there a big trial related
to the rape? Or was Dee on the stand when James was accused of murdering
John (who was faking his death)?

Annie Stewart and her doctor husband Jeff (they had quadruplets or

I may have this all wrong, but didn't Dee admit on the stand that she
wasn't really raped, in fact she thought she was making love with Brad
Hollister (her sister Annie's husband???) but when she found out it was

is sick, leaves, goes on maternity leave, goes on vacation, or dies. Do
you remember any temporary character actors that stood out as being
excellent? Ones that you wish could have been cast in a role, any
permanent role, on the soap?

This would be a real tough thing to remember, but my fellow r.a.t.s.c

It was Dee Stewart that John was acused of raping. My husband is an actor,
and he lived in NYC in the early '80s. He played the jury foreman for that
trial. I didn't know him then, I was just a college gal in Texas, watching
my soap. Nine years later I met him on a blind date, after I moved to NY.

OH YEAH!! The wonderful Maeve McGuire (Nicole from Edge of Night) subbed
very briefly for Eileen Fulton one week (can't remember why) years and
years ago. That was the week that Lisa and the original Caleb (Michael
David Morrison) flirted at the Mona Lisa and ended up necking at the end of
the evening. Quite bizarre, and probably would never have happened if EF
had been there. McGuire wasn't quite right for the role of Lisa, but she
had a really charismatic presence.

Others? None that I thought should be a permanent fixture.

On a tangent to this, the actor who played the second Caleb was a
temp who played the first one while the actor was off for several weeks.
Sorry I can't remember any names, but I am having what a co-worker calls
"a senior moment" and they are lost in the mist.

ROTFL... at this picture! It is SO familiar. I've never heard it
called a "senior" moment, but I have them quite frequently... and
usually it is over "names".

When this happens, I just remind myself of all the wonderful
places, events and things I have replaced those "lost" names
with. ;-D Well,it works sometimes.in relieving the frustration

Marcia was a cold person.

Please add more to this list. We have many new people that never heard
about these characters, so discuss how these people related to the
storylines.

I remember that Dee accused John of raping her but I do not remember the
part about her thinking it was Brad or it coming out that Margo was his
daughter during the trial. I remember it as having to do with Craig is
how it "all came out in the wash" about Margo being John's, but I'm
really not sure at all.

Now, Glenn, here's the real story. Susan Batten had a baby when
she was 13. Because the father was black, she was afraid to tell
her parents so she ran away from home and lived on the streets.
Jobs were scarce for a young kid who hadn't completed high school
so she began to shoplift. While being chased by an angry shopowner
one day, she ran into the street and was brushed by a car. The man
driving picked her up and helped her escape.

It turned out that he was a doctor, performing slightly illegal
experiments at a lab outside of town. He gave her work cleaning up
around the place, promised to deliver her baby and find it a good
home.

One morning late in her pregnancy, she entered the lab to clean. She
wasn't feeling at all well and she was rather clumsy. Just as she
was picking up a large beaker to dust under it, she was seized with a
contraction and she dropped it. The liquid drenched her clothing and
she inhaled the fumes. Later that day, she gave birth. The doctor
let her hold the baby for a while and then gave it to the nice Chicago
couple he had sold her to.

Years later, after she had gotten herself together with the help of
the Earl Mitchell Center, she completed high school and went to Los
Angeles to become an actress. On the train, she found an old Newsweek
with an article about the doctor who had helped her. It turned out
that
he had been performing illegal nerve gas experiments. "This explains
my uncontrollable flapping!" she thought with amazement. "And all
this
time I thought it was an endearing little character trait!"

Brian married Duncan's daughter and moved to Scotland or wherever. I
believe he was involved with a piano player named Juliette or something
like that. Wasn't he about to marry Shannon when Duncan showed up claiming
he and Shannon were married?

I miss Shannon. Such a great character, espeically when she first arrived
in Oakdale and lived with John as his housekeeper I think.

I changed the name of this thread since it seems to be a bit off topic.
Wasn't the rape of Dee about the same time as John pretended to be dead?
Maybe James S. got John's Death-For-Dummies manual and picked up some
pointers.

LOL! You're right! Oh, dear, if I'm confusing soap life with real
life, does that mean I don't have a life of my own??

He wasn't convicted because he didn't rape her. I think Dee was drunk
(not sure on this) and thought she was making love with Brad Hollister,
her brother-in-law whom she really loved. Instead, it was Johnny Boy,
her estranged husband. She charged him with rape (thinking it really
was) and then recanted on the witness stand when she remembered what
happened.

When they first 'rescued' her, she turned out to be a very we
wealthy womand who owned the Corbman mansion. They turned this into
a homeless shelter.

Which brings up another tangent. Somehow, Steve got Betsy a
house in Ruxton Hills (the wealthy part of town) and I seem to
remember
that she turned it into a children's home because she didn't want it.
When Lisa gave up Whit McColl's house, she turned it into a home for
disturbed children. Harriet gave her place to a homeless shelter.
Duncan and Lisa turned his castle into a shelter for runaways. Isn't
it about time they made someone's place into a way station for kids
coming to Oakdale to locate their missing parents?
