I have tried to post a question about AT&T usenet and their "cancelation"
thing.

But the ng won't accept the message.

Is it for real?

Roadrunner, Earthlink and now AT&T. Other too.

I still get mine through - news.eternal-september.org brought in
through Agent which I bought years ago and don't have any need to
update. Works fine and news.eternal-september.org is free.

Yes Pat. TWC (Roadrunner) x'd them long ago. Reason: unknown.
Long ago, I used to access thru aohell. They too x'd them. Many
others also. I go thru, well, actually, I'm not quite sure now.
The bill is Centaur, it used to be pronews, now it's american
something and cost me $6/month. It was a major PITA for sure.

FYI, there are two free news servers that are both excellent that I
can highly recommend. I set up accounts with both when I dropped my
Cox cable account. They are actually more reliable than Cox was. (They
carry text only newsgroups like this one, just no binary NG's). There
is no catch; they really are free news servers. I use them with my
Forte Agent newsreader, and know others who are using them with OE and
Thunderbird:

Most major ISP's are x'ing Usenet unfortunately (same thing is happening up
here in Canada). It started a couple of years ago and ultimately access
will have to be through a 3rd party. I use a German based server called
Datemas which is very good. I got in many years ago when it was free but
now it costs something like 5 Euros a year (yes, per year not per
month)...and they take paypal.

http://news.datemas.de/

There is another 3rd party server that was mentioned here in the sandbox a
few months ago that was called Motzarella but upon checking their website
now it seems to be called Eternal September (interesting name). I think
they may be free.

Of course you would have to register (just follow the links) with any server
you choose which isn't a big deal. I know the folks at Datemas get back to
you the next business day with the particulars. There is always access via
google (I've never checked it out as I've always used Datemas)...but
generally I've heard that google access to Usenet sucks ass.

Hope that helps.

Dave - Toronto

Ah, google groups works. Might not be perfect...but it is easy and
universal.

Thanks.

Once more you guys have come through. It has been a f**king bitch of a day.

And it isn't over yet. One of the absolute worst days of my life.

Gawd in heaven, how do we get through them.

And no, my husband didn't die nor is he hurt, nor our son. And that is all
I can say, for the moment.

Where would I be without you guys

loving you much

news.eternalseptember.org also works fine with Outlook Express.

Newgroups are still going to exist. You will not be able to acces them
through your ATT. account. There are several sources.

Thanks Dave. I'm fine with my current setup. There have been
snafus in the past and I admit, they are on top of things
customer service wise via email.
