I am 43 years old, and as an infant I was watched by my Grandmother.
She plopped me in front of her stories...and I watched ATWT and GL my
entire life.

I have a very bad time sense, but when I discovered this NewGroup I
was outraged that Marshall Hilliard had been replaced by Frank Grillo
as Hart on Guiding Light. I was in the minority, most were thrilled.
I could never understand it. While my time judgment is off, my
emotional memory is very strong. I still can clearly see Hilliard's
Hart holding back tears the first time Petey called him Daddy.

I met Donna Bridges here, and we became close. I met Dana and found
her to be wonderful. Michael, Seth, Cheri, Bj, the wonderful
MzLiz...and so many more.

With my Grandmother gone, this group...in it's heyday...became a home
on the net. A place to talk about our 'stories' and to share tales of
our own lives. To remember our Grandmother's and Mothers...just as we
remembered Bert Bauer, Chris Hughes the Senior and the much beloved
Michael Zaslow. There are so many people, on screen and in this group,
that we may never meet in person...but they are family.

For me that onscreen list includes:

Lisa Brown. Whether as Nola Reardon on Guiding Light or as Iva on As
the World Turns, she brought life and reality to each show she worked
on. She could make you feel for her, with her, and get you to love
her. A rare talent that was set aside for fresher, younger faces. Many
of whom she had to teach to act.

Susan Hayes. As beautiful today and when she guest starred on Star
Trek, she took Kim from siren to town Matriarch with grace and humor.
She was a constant reminder that older women can be sexy and that
classy women are more interesting than bimbos.

Tom and Margo;the characters, not any specific set of actors. While
no one could ever compare to Deas and Colin, they always managed to
make Tom and Margo fresh. Up until their lackluster ending that is.

Don Hastings. How on earth will each day go by without Dr. Bob being
concerned for his patients? Being there for Kim, and his kids. Even
managing to make a warm friendship out of a dreadful mistake with
Susan.

With the show gone, so many questions remain.

When will Emma come home, and will Meg be with her?
Will Parker finally lose that Prince Valiant haircut when he gets his
badge?
Will Luke and Noah reunite, or will Luke find real love again?
And just what happened to Kirk and Sam?

And how much will I miss discussing all these characters and their
lives with all of you? I am not a Bold and the Beautiful type of
guy. I find it highly farcical and cannot bear the actor who plays
Ridge. I watched Young and the Restless from the very first episode to
just after Victor and Nikky's first wedding. But even to follow the
wonderful Maura West, I would have no idea what was going on or who
anyone was. I still miss Lori and Leslie, Nostalgia, it is
bittersweet,

Of the final episode of ATWT, I must say this...Eileen Fulton was done
such a disservice that Goutman should be strung up. Yes, they had
given her a tribute episode already...but it was terrible. No one
amongst the idiots in charge seem to remember that Lisa was the Carly
of her day. The ONLY soap opera character to ever be spun off into her
own prime time series, and then be seamlessly woven back into the main
series after that shows end. It was a show of her devotion to her fans
that even bothered to show up to tape those scenes with John and
Lucinda

As someone else mentioned, the only scene today that got me was
Luke...listening to his love's heart in Chris' chest. Not only was it
something that might actually occur, that was character driven and
well acted and played out...I found it to be a metaphor.

Luke was not just looking for the soothing beat of Reid's heart. He
was listening for some sign that the genre daytime drama still had a
heart. And while I was glad he got the closure he needed to accept
Reid's sacrifice, I am afraid the heart in daytime that he was seeking
is long gone. That heart stopped beating years ago, when on sister
show Guiding Light, Michael Zaslow was fired in order to keep Roger
Thorpe from becoming, as one heartless producer said, 'a wizened, old
man'.

My afternoons are going to be free now. But I will often daydream of
Springfield and Oakdale. And when I do, I will think fondly of all of
the wonderful people in this newsgroup.

Goodnight, everyone. And goodnight to Dr. Bob Hughes, It was a true
pleasure,

Those were 2 great scenes. I also grew up watching the 15 minute ATWT
and GL with my grand mother. She has since gone on. She eventually
stopped looking at those in later years and chose B&B and Y&R instead
after she retired. Then she finally said that B&B did too much mate
switching and she stuck with Y&R until her death. I watched Y&R for
years as I thought of what she would say to this scene and what she
would say to that scene. It was a way of still feeling connected to
her. I work at home so listening to the CBS soaps with my back turned
has been my daily company for years. Now I have started listening to
GH and OLTL and I check out Y&R at night on soapnet (which will end
soon) But luckily, they all can be seen online.

Those were great, agreed. My favorite scene ever, though, was when Kim
found Doug Cummings' secret shrine to her.

Same to you, Bahboo! We have shared many years of fun, laughs and
disgust [at times], which will be remembered for a long, long time...
including all the ratsc members.

Take care of yourself,
bj

YES!! I remember that day like it was yesterday. I loved the way Kim's
story and Doug and Frannie's romance played out for a long time like
two unrelated storylines. Suddenly, that Friday, it all made sense,
all the clues fit together. Masterful storytelling.

And to be honest, I am still lost without my daily fix of
Springfield. Wish TeleNext would put out some DVDs of Guiding Light
and As the World Turns too. They would make some money!!
And I do miss coming here to talk about the stories.
