According to Michael Fairman, Hillary Bailey Smith (Nora) has been
hired to play a psychiatrist on The Bold and the Beautiful:

As much as that group needs a psychiatrist, and as happy as I am for
HBS, I do wish it were some other show she was joining (not that there
are that many left).

Maybe if she does well enough on B&B she'll get "promoted" to Y&R.

I started watching B&B after AMC left the air. It is mind-boggingly bad
but in a campy way, and its limited-to-30-minutes episodes help make it
more tolerable. However, it looks a lot like AMC did towards the end
with several of the older, tenured actors just barely phoning it in.

There are two young female characters on B&B who could both use some
psychiatric help to get out of the ridiculous love triangle they're in.
The storyline should get more interesting if HBS' character gets into
the mix.

Yes, but Taylor (who really was, once upon a time, a competent
psychiatrist) has lost any credibility she had a long, long time ago.

There's also James Warwick, who shows once in a while.

I think she'll be an excellent addition, if they use her properly, and
I admire Brad Bell's good sense in hiring her. I just wish it were
some other show (though as I said, there aren't that many left).

Since AMC ended I've tried Y&R and B&B. God, is B&B dreadful. Beyond drek.
"Botoxed nuts" is an understatement. And who the hell is that actor with the
horrendously bad dye job, or is it maybe a horrendously bad toupee? and he's
an even worse actor to boot. Oh, wait, come to think of it, there are a
couple of those guys on that show. Ugh.

Y&R is bearable. I think I briefly watched it back in the late 70s but it
never grabbed my attention the way AMC did. In desperation I'm watching it
lately though again it's not really holding my interest. Or maybe I'm just
still woefully homesick for Pine Valley.

LOL. I see you've had the pleasure of watching Ronn Moss in
performance. I have been watching him on B&B for almost twenty years
and IMO, his acting skills have not improved a bit. One of these days
Moss will surprise me. To dream the impossible dream...

Moss looks better with his natural hair coloring and a beard as

Have you sampled DOOL yet? It has been many years since DOOL veered
towards the supernatural and showed a woman being possessed by Satan
and must be exorcised by her former lover, a Catholic priest. ;-)

Indeed. DOOL is back to being a classic soap, the kind of soap it was
for so many years. Back in the late 70s and most of the 80s, it was
one of the best, a perfect blend of romance, mysteries, and the daily
struggles of multigenerational families.

I have a friend who commented a couple of years ago that she couldn't
get past all that possession nonsense. I told her that those days are
long gone, different people in charge, that it was back to its roots,
even mentioning the return of characters like Patch and Kayla,
Jennifer, etc.

Recently, I mentioned that I was watching occasionally and she AGAIN
recited how she stopped watching because of all the crazy stories. Do
you ever have that feeling that people aren't listening to you when
you speak? Ever spend a long time composing a great email at work,
only to have the recipient clearly not read a freakin' word of it??
Honestly, it's infuriating.

Anyway, yes they still have Stefano and Victor Kiriakas (with smartly
smaller roles than in the past) and Roman and Marlena are back (good
thing or bad, depending on your feelings on those two). Characters are
struggling with unrequited love, career ups and downs, etc. and the
writers seem to know their backstories and trigger points, all good
things. The other day, they had a moving episode where a teenager
(Sami's son Will, for those who know) asked his gay friend many
questions about how he came out to his family and friends, clearly
trying to come to grips with his sexuality, but unable to reveal it
even to his best friend. The young actor was very good, heartbreaking,
really. I'm interested to see this play out.

I will say that they spent about 3 days last week in what was
basically a single scene, broken up over the days, with Bo, Hope, and
Stefano arguing about opening some safety deposit box that Stefano and
Alice Horton shared, with some secret that Stefano thinks will ruin
Hope and Bo's lives if they learn it. I can appreciate the fact that
they are trying to keep the late Alice on the canvas in some way, but
this endless discussion was truly tedious.

I sure hope the big secret is worth all the drawn-out drama. But, see,
I'll be tuning in to see and THAT is what it's all about.

The Alice-Stefano story has indeed reached a "shit or get off the pot" milestone, and I hope it's worth it.

I have liked Will's storyline.

In terms of your friend who "never got over the possession" storyline... for many people, soaps are a habit that
they want to break, and something comes along, like OJ preemptions or Marlena levitating, and they make the break.
There is such a anti-daytime-soap bias that I am sure many people are unwilling to admit they even watch soaps. My
brother once said to me, when I mentioned the soaps I have watched for 29 and 25 years were cancelled, "Aren't all
soap actors just really untalented?" So I rattled of a long list of stars, but I think his attitude was probably
that the ones who stay must be bad.

So the story you are relating is showing exactly why it's so hard to get a former viewer back. That's the advice I
hear--get old viewers to come back. But it's tough once they broke the habit!

B&B is absolutely the worst I have ever seen, and people around the globe are watching this crap. No wonder everybody dislikes Americans, if they think we all are like this plastic soap characters.
Do try DOOL, it is far better. Good old-time soap opera!
