Considering how much we have to suspend belief in order to follow some of
GH's storylines (you know, Sonny's accross-the world-and-back-again
travels in the time span of a day or so; Laura having a child who was born
after she was married to Luke, but who is now older than her marriage;
24-hour gloom and fog on a *certain* island, while the rest of PC has
daylight....just to mention some of the most recent cases) anyway, after
all that I don't find it hard at all to buy a lot of what goes on on Star
Trek (and they provide better explanations for the inexplicable). Time
travel, rapid aging of children, absence of any apparent aging in the
adults, strange climates......Gee, the more you think about it, the more
these two programmes seem to have in common!

Tracy (Laurie's Newbie and someone who can appreciate both GH and Star
Trek if she doesn't think about it too much ;)

Sure, sure, but I think, really, it's some sort of alternate universe
thing. In fact, I've been working on this theory about wormholes I think
you might be interested in.... ;)

Not your imagination. You can say Corbomite around here and
most everyone will know what you're talking about. But it
may have more to do with being on RATSA than watching GH.
That is, technofiles tend to be Trek fans. Still, what first
attracted us to GH was the SF element of The Ice Princess
Storyline. We were already Trek fans at that point and it
thrilled us that Kor the Klingon was playing Mikkos Cassadine.

Sorry, Isi, I seem to have misspelled your name above.

This really belongs in the FAQ---

Genie Francis (Laura) is married to Johnathan Frakes (Riker) in real
life. The IRL father of the child portrayed by those adorable heirs to
the legend of the Olson twins is Mr. Frakes.

Now, for other linkages:
Felicia Bell plays the Wesley Wannabe Jake Sisco's mother (primarily
through flashbacks)

The Guy who plays Reginald starred in a primetime series on UPN, the name of
which I forget, which had special guest appearances by both Leonard
Nimoy and LeVar Burton. Stevan Kay (is that his name?) had the good sense
to keep his day job, and remains on GH.

There are a million other linkages---I should know, I am married to a
trekkie who watches GH!

Somebody should write a paper outlining the parallels between Luke
Spencer & Capt. Kirk. *He* could pull off a Corbomite Maneuver!

Ah yes, but he really excels at the Kobayashi Maru test. His solution
is to let Sonny "take care" of it.

Hmmm....

1. Both shows the best of their genre
2. Development of characters through interesting stories
3. The number of times per season Bones uttered the words "He's dead, Jim"
correlates with the number of times similar utterances have been required
on GH in the last year :(
4. Smart women
5. J.T. Kirk egos run rampant
6. Great actors, great characters, despite the occasional Wesley Crusher
7. They all rate very highly in production values
8. Have you not noticed the sexual tensions and triangles in the various
Star Trek sagas? It's all over the place!
9. Time and space are relative
10. " Mr. Collins, Miss Coe, engage!" "Robin, Stone, you have the
bridge...",the omnipotent Q continuum, Stefan to unseen crony: "Make it
so, Number One!"

They don't seem so very different to me. :)

This last sentence has me a little confused, so for the record:
Genie's pregnancy (with her hubby Jonathon Frakes) was written
into GH as Laura's pregnancy (with hubby Luke) which gave us
LesleyLu Spencer. LuLu is portrayed by twins who are not related
to Genie and Jonathon.

Here's one that connects another now-defunct ABC soap with Star
Trek: Kate Mulgrew, who plays Capt. Janeway on ST: Voyager,
used to play Maire/Mary/? Ryan on Ryan's Hope.

Wasn't the guy who plays Mike on Ryan's Hope? I never watched it so I
don't know the character's name, but I do remember reading about it
somewhere (probably here....). If my feeble memory serves me well,
however, I think we've just found another link from ST to GH....

I believe the character's name was Roger Coleridge.

It is a joke---the Tummy Lump was fathered by JF, but is not played by
their child. The twins play this UBERRchild---

And don't forget Robert Duncan McNeill, who was Joey Martin on AMC, and
is now Tom Paris on "Voyager." patt.

Good memory for faces, but wrong character. McNeill played Charlie Brent
to Lauren Holly's Julie Chandler, remember?

Laura,

Wah! I am so busted. In my mind I saw Julie & Mr. X, and just got Mr. X's
name wrong. Do I get bonus points for getting the family right? :) patt.

Hrm....
Levar Burton -- Stevan Kay -- Genie Francis -- Patrick Swayze (North and
South) -- Tom Cruise (The Outsiders) -- Kevin Bacon (A Few Good Men) :)

Therefore all old and new (that is original cast and TNG cast) casts
(Star Trek that is) can be connected to Kevin Bacon through Levar Burton
or Leonard Nimoy in 6 steps :) maybe less but this is the closest I could
think of off the top of my head :)
