When I saw the scenes w/Andrew & David, my heart was ripped apart.
When Wortham kissed Michael as he hugged him, it was chilling.
What totally broke my heart, though, was when Robin and Michael did the PSA for
ALS. My prayers will be with the Zaslow family and friends throughout this
difficult time.
On a side note - DAMN those idiots at Guiding Light (which, until the cloning
story was one of my favorites) for allowing such a talented and gifted actor to
go. DAMN them for being such inconsiderate jerks. And, DAMN them for being so
uncompassionate towards this wonderful man.

The first time I laid my eyes on David Renaldi (MZaslow), I admit to being
shocked. I knew he had the disease, of course, but I had no idea that ALS
can ravage a body so, so quickly. I mean, I knew it was a fast disease,
intellectually, but .. it's one thing to understand something in the mind,
and quite another to actually see it with your eyes.
Zaslow, his friends and family have my deepest sympathy. I've always
enjoyed his acting, and I'm utterly impressed with his strength in doing
what he's doing now.
That said, I loved David's scenes with Andrew, especially when David
politely, but firmly, told Andrew that he was perfectly capable of moving
those chess pieces, and that his ears were working as well. In that
scene, I saw and heard the same wonderful sense of humor Zaslow has
infused into his characters on both OLTL and GL.
The emotions David expressed today were profound. I'm looking forward to
every day Zaslow is giving us to enjoy.
For what it's worth,

I agree... about Michael Zaslow's return. I had tears in my eyes when I saw
him, and to think what Procter and Gamble did to him by firing him from
Guiding Light. I am watching OLTL off and on because of Kale Browne. As
Another World's ratings continue to sink, I will probably switch more to
OLTL, especially is AW is cancelled outright which I would predict will
happen.

Welcome Tom. This is something else to see you over here at this

demise of AWFB. (as well as the apparent demise of AW.) Although I don't

It's a shame that more people aren't familiar with the disease. If you
go to the ZazAngels page, they have an explanation of the disease. It's
very informative.

This got me to thinking. So often, we see acting as voice and
movements. But, in reality, it is much more. We can express so much
with facial expressions and the eyes. "They're the mirror of the soul"
someone has said, and I agree. What Michael Zaslow is doing is showing
the world that he can act. He may not be able to vocalize but the
greatest actors/actresses know that already. You don't sale a story with
your written speech--you sell it with your emotions, your motions, your
facial expressions and your eyes.
I've already sent my sincerest wishes for the family. We need to
remember all of them in our daily prayers (or meditations, as the case
may be). I admire his strength. I admire his courage. I admire the man.

Ditto all this, but I just keep thinking that the moral of this story
is that it's CBS's loss & ABC's gain, GL's loss & OLTL's gain, and I
have to imagine that the fact that Zaslow & GL/P&G/CBS have settled
their differences in a settlement whose terms are not made public that
that surely must mean $$ transferred from them to him & I'm vengeful
enough to say HooRah! I'm not always against big business, but when
they do something so stupid, I like seeing them pay. Between P&G's
stupidity and NBC's stupidity on other things, all I can see is CBS &
NBC fans headed for ABC.

Which will eventually lead to Mary Alice Dwyer Dobbin's demise in her job
as the Idiot In Charge (Executive in Charge) of Production at P&G, since
the NBC show I believe you are referring to is AW (and the actor being
Charles Keating, right?), also a P&G production. I was just talking
about this in RATSC the other day (I still lurk there while watching OLTL
and GH, specifically waiting for word of this woman's dismissal, which in
turn would lead to a big fat happy dance)... Ironically enough for CBS
viewers, the one thing that may just cause MADD to lose her job is a
HUMONGOUS screw-up at another network (NBC), which is causing ratings for
AW to free-fall into nothingness. P&G can't keep doing this forever.
They have to cut their losses with the woman sooner or later, IMO.

Sometimes, things work out okay in the end. MZ's brilliant body of work
as Roger Thorpe will remain in the soap opera annals as one of the great
portrayals of one the most fascinating characters ever in daytime. Altho
I haven't watched the show in a few years, I presume the character that
MZ created has been preserved. Perhaps they thought a GL without
Roger Thorpe, qua Roger Thorpe, would be unthinkable. Roger is part
of the franchise.
David Rinaldi, however, is a character that can come back on OLTL's
canvas to educate us about ALS, and give us a story about the struggle
of mind over body. I suspect this is the story Pam Long is most
suited to bring to us. I remember when she wrote for SB that I felt she
was sadly inadequate for comedy and adventure writing, which had been
the hallmarks of that show. Instead, she brought in new characters
with a great deal of sentimentality and traditional soap opera character
stories. While I found that to be a minus for SB, it would be a great
boon for OLTL, after its vagueries in writing of the last 7 years.
I am terribly sorry that Zaz has suffered this fate and faces these
challenges. However, if anyone has the strength and drive to face it,
and teach the world something in the process, it is MZ. I think he's
incredibly heroic. David and Jenny were a favorite couple of mine a
decade ago, and I am so proud that the two actors I put so much
faith in as actors are also such great human beings. Brynn Thayer
is an angel, in her sense of the word. MZ will always be a lead
actor to me, and a great one, with or without a physical voice.
There is no need to damn Guiding Light. OLTL somehow has
received a blessing in the return of someone who may be the
greatest actor ever to grace OLTL. Except for maybe Tommy Lee.
And I think they are blessed to be able to tell this very poignant
story with someone capable of telling it as its never been told.
MZ will get a nomination for best actor next year for OLTL.
Mark my words.
Ironically, he may bring back some of us who've stayed away
from OLTL, too.
Can anyone tell me if Viki has seen David yet, and what her reactions
were? I did catch some with Dorian, but Viki's the one who brought
David to Llanview. He saved her life once. Could be a great scene for
both MZ and ES. Or many.
---Carolyn (David and Jenny fan) Adams
Actually, IMO, not so much... TIIC over at CBS/P&G brought in one of the
most sorry excuses of a recast for a strong powerful man such as Roger
was when Zas played him, and Dennis Parlato effectively destroyed Roger
by trying to fill an AWFULLY big pair of shoes, thanks to Mary Alice
Dwyer Dobbin's arrogance. The last memories that Roger Thorpe fans are
going to have are those of Parlato butchering the character of Roger, and
as a former loyal CBS viewer of 15+ years, that makes me incredibly sad,
because Roger used to be such an integral part of GL that he WAS almost
GL. I agree that people will remember Zas' portrayal of him, probably
forever, though, because he was brilliant and he was the only one who
could play the part, but there will always be a small black mark on Roger
Thorpe's persona, strictly because of the last year and a half or so.
> Perhaps they thought a GL without
> Roger Thorpe, qua Roger Thorpe, would be unthinkable. Roger is part

Yeah, and look where it's all gotten them... Roger Thorpe isn't in town
anymore because of a really bad decision to recast the part. Zas created
Roger Thorpe back in 1970-71 (somewhere in there) and if anyone should
have been able to take Roger off the GL canvas, it should've been Zas. I
honestly think Thorpe's going to die off-camera somewhere because of the
uproar over Zas, and to me that's sad, because Thorpe's demise should be
part of a storyline with Zas as the actor, and not just mentioned in
passing like I fear it will be.

And I REALLY like how they've done this so far. This show has been a
treat to watch, IMO, when you put it up against the competition.

I say this with no hint of sarcasm whatsoever... There *is* a need to
damn them if you were once upon a time a fan of GL, because this whole
thing should've never happened.

Not only will he get the nomination, but based on what's been going on on
the other shows on the other networks, I think he'll win the award hands
down.

It's also brought in new viewers like me who like what they've seen for
the most part (I know a lot of people disagree with me about it, but just
try watching ATWT or AW right now... You'll be back to OLTL within the
week.) and will probably stay a while.

As of Monday's (5/18) episode, Viki hasn't seen David yet. In fact, I
don't think she's even learned of his presence in Llanview yet. I think
Cassie was about to go talk to her when Dorian popped into the newsroom

For best actor? I don't think so, guys, but not because I don't think
he's doing a fabulous job. He is. But as a recurring character, not
as a actor playing a role that is eligible for the best actor Emmy.
There is an understandable desire to reward an heroic man and an
heroic performance, but unless Zaz becomes a lead actor on OLTL,
something I think would tax his strength inordinately, there is no
chance that he qualifies for lead actor.

Good point and after reading your post, ITA, because unless they give Zas
a contract, which is improbable but not completely impossible, he'll be
nothing more than a recurring role, and I've never seen an emmy go to a
recurring role before. What if, though, they give him the lifetime
acheivement award he so richly deserves? He's done a lot for the daytime
television industry in addition to his onscreen work (I think he's
chaired or been president of a couple of committees or organizations in
the past that have a direct impact on daytime television. I don't
remember the names, but will look later if anyone's interested.), and ALS
or not, he deserves to be recognized for his dedication to the acting
community.

I think that's much better, and certainly would put less pressure on
him. Right now he seems to be thriving on public appearances, but who
knows how he will feel in a year?
I remember the case of one actor who was widely celebrated for his
valiant fight against cancer. He found it a terrible strain to keep
appearing at events, but didn't know how not to come, because it was
expected of him. In his case, he was rescued by his devoted wife, who
willingly took on herself the burden of being "the bitch who was keep
him all to herself." That bitch gave him the privacy to save his
strength, and I love her for that.

I have. Gerald Anthony received best supporting actor for his portrayal of
Marco Dane. Not on OLTL, where he originated the role, but on GH. That
was not a contract role, as I recall. At best, you'd call it recurring.
If they can call Julia Barr's role "supporting", when she was given
dramatic
lead material all year long, and they call Nicholas on GH a child actor, I
think
they can call Zaz a lead actor. It's not like the definitions are engraved
in
