Kinda looked like the artist (and I use the term loosely) was
channeling Michael or LaToya J.

well.
That was my first thought as well... Does Kendall look exactly like Zach's
Mom? But, I don't think they can go down that road since we would have had
to have had some foreshadowing.
Charles
I'm with Charles, that I don't think they'd go down that road, but for a
different reason. Clearly, when Zach saw the portrait, the writing and
blocking telegraphed to us that the portrait being there signalled to Zach
that the killer had been in the warehouse and left a portrait of Kendall as a
"nyah nyah" of sorts. How could a picture of his wife be in that warehouse
without someone -- obviously the killer -- having access to it?
To add a layer of complexity to that -- by having the portrait be Zach's mom,
who mysteriously looks exactly like Kendall <g> -- is beyond what the writers
think the audience is capable of comprehending. Generally, they're writing
as though they think the viewers are a bunch of third graders.

At this point, I have no expectations of this storyline making any
sense at all!

Wait a minute -- was that portrait supposed to be of Zach's mother or of
Kendall? I thought it was Kendall and, as Aisling said, the killer just
placed it there to freak Zach out. We've seen Zach's mother in flashbacks to
her death, and she looks nothing like Kendall. Plus, we've seen the picture
that Zarf had of Zach's mother and she doesn't look like Kendall.
I don't think the writers are trying to say that the two women are identical
to one another in looks.

Well, why should this storyline be any different from any other storyline on
AMC?

My take on the painting was that the killer is screwing with Zach.
He/she purposely put a painting of Kendall dressed *like* his mother
looked when before she died (white dress/satin robes/gardenias). The
purpose of this was to drive home that Kendall is next to die and to
torture Zach (for whatever reasons we haven't found out yet..cough
*greenlee* cough)
I don't think we are supposed to believe Kendall and Zach's mom looked
alike. There may have even been a painting similar to this with Zach's
mom in it that exists.

Interesting how it's really unclear after we compare impressions.
Why, though, do I think this is an accident rather than intended bit of the
writing? <G>

I agree that it's probably a picture of Zach's mom that's been altered
to look like Kendall.
-OR -
Has anyone else seen it besides Zach? Could it be that he "sees" it as
Kendall, and we're seeing it through his eyes, but to another person it
won't look exactly like Kendall? Perhaps when another person goes into
the warehouse, we'll see it as it "really" appears w/o Zach's projected
image.
Nah....that's too sophisticated for these writers!

What a damn neat idea! I like it. But, yea, too complicated for the
writers.
