He's gay, right? Isn't that supposed to be the reason Kate Collins didn't marry
him. She's been going around the soap press calling him her soul mate and
stuff.

Um...are we talking about the actors, Jean le Clerc and Kate Collins? Or the
characters? Because Jeremy Hunter and Natalie Marlowe Chandler Dillon were
_definitely_ not gay.

As for IRL, I thought Kate Collins was married to someone she knew from high
school, with a couple of kids, and living in Chicago. Don't know why she'd be
going on about Jean le Clerc being her soulmate if she's still happily married.
Maybe I'm behind on my offscreen statistics...?

Whoops.

Make that "Natalie Marlowe Hunter Chandler Dillon." Forgot about Jeremy's dad
there for a sec!

Wasn't she married to Palmer briefly as well?

They were together for several years. It wasn't hidden or anything...they were
pretty open about being together. They started dating on AMC and moved in
together and lived part of the time in Quebec. There was a bit about them in a
tv show, where they were interviewed together at his home somewhere in Quebec
where they spent weekends, and they were talking about how they fell in love.
He said he fell in love with her the minute he laid eyes on her...something to
that effect.

But...the rumor was he didn't want to commit to marriage. She eventually met
the producer of an off-B'way play (I've forgotten his name, but she and the
other 3 or 4 amc stars that were in the show were all on Oprah one time, years
ago). They married, had kids, and live wherever they live (I don't know).

Jean LeClerc was on the radio a few years back and was briefly asked about Kate
Collins, and he said he'll always be fond of her and think of her as a friend,
and thought she deserved to win an Emmy on amc.

D'Oh! How quickly they forget. You're right, Jo. So
that's Natalie Marlowe Hunter Cortlandt Chandler Dillon.

I meant the actors. Actually only LeClerc. Also, I made a typo, I mean to say
she'd been going around (past tense) talking about how he's her soul mate in
interviews back when they were both on the show. They were supposed to get
married, but broke up.

Actually that's Natalie Marlow Hunter Courtlandt Hunter Chandler Dillon. She
was married to Palmer and also to Jeremy.

As I recall, Natalie had an affair with Jeremy, but never married him. (Please
correct me if I am wrong--like I need to ask....)

SO, my take is "Natalie Marlow Hunter Cortlandt Chandler Dillon".

They weren't. They were never engaged and their only break-up
occurred when Kate Collins became seriously involved with her future
husband.

I find it interesting that you say Collins went around saying he was
her soul mate, as if a) she was the only one who said it and b) as if
it were some plot she cooked up for her own benefit. The story is
quite different.

There are two ways of viewing this relationship. In one, and it's one
I subscribe to, your first post's question about Jean Le Clerc's
sexual orientation, is his to address, not ours. The second is that
if these two dear friends, for whatever reason (and it's not hard to
image what one might be, given the decade and climate) decided to give
interviews and make very public their delight in each other's company,
it was a mutual decision, not a one-sided campaign. In fact they both
gave interviews, both allowed photographs to be taken of their
Canadian retreat, both attended parties as each others' escort. They
were, however, always very careful never to speak as if theirs was a
sexual relationship. In that I think they were observing a private
code of honor which allowed them to satisfy the fan magazine
audience's interests while maintaining their own values.

Natalie thought she married Jeremy .... but Erica hired an actor to play the
part of a minister and since the actor married them it wasn't legal! I believe
Erica told Jeremy what she did right after the ceremony and he thought it was
great. Natalie, of course, did not find out until later. It was very funny!

He didn't want to "tie the knot." So she tied it with someone else. ;-)
