So there I was waiting to be seen by the dentist and reading
Entertainment (Weekly?) magazine. This magazine reported that Mark
Frekal (last name totally butchered by me - I have no idea how to
spell it) died in September from a motorcycle accident. They
described Mark as a british actor who was in the now defunct Fox
series called ???? (It was the show about vampires with C. Thomas
Howell). I remebered when the show came out seeing 'Simon Bolt' in
the adds and when I saw the picture alongside the article, I realized
it was indeed him. RIP.

The name was Mark Frankel. He left behind a wife, child and
child-on-the-way.

Oh my god, I didn't know that. He was my great T.V. crush. How terribly sad.

That's so sad. I really liked him. It's weird because he died in Sisters
too, right? Ouch. Life imitates art.

The actor's name was Mark Frankel, and the vampire show was "Kindred: the
Embraced". I liked the show, and joined a mailing list devoted to it.
Since the show was cancelled after 7 or 8 episodes, we really didn't have
much to talk about, but we analyzed the characters ad nauseum, etc. Almost
everyone on the list was gaga over Mark -- he was just so gorgeous and
charismatic. Then someone posted the news about his death -- first as a
rumor, and then the actual obituary. As you can imagine, the list mail
dropped off dramatically and what was posted were mainly laments. I
unsubscribed at that point -- for all I know the list has survived his
death.
I felt kinda shallow being sad about his death, not just because he had a
family or any normal reason like that, but because he was so beautiful!
Which in turn reminded me of something out of "The Book of Questions"
about the effect of beauty -- the question was something like "Why is it
acceptable -- even laudable -- to squash an ugly insect like a roach,
while killing an insect that is beautiful, like a butterfly, is looked
upon with horror?"

Oh, that's deep. It's also true. That says something about our society
that we do indeed abhor the ugly and embrace beauty. I remember once a
Johnathon Miller show about medicine where he talked about why people seek
medical help. It seems that we will ignore things like a suspicious lump
or pain but will scurry off for an appointment like a shot if we have an
ugly rash or something visible to other people.
Ain't we humans interesting?

Actually, Simon Bolt didn't die on "Sisters." Well, Teddy *thought* he
had died, but really he had faked his own demise to escape embezzlement
charges (he stole from the rich to give to the poor). He then realized
he could leave everything in his life except Teddy, so he showed up on
her doorstep. She had already started her relationship with Falconer
(George Clooney) at this point. After some period of him helping her
at her business, trying to "win her back," etc., Falconer (the cop) caught
on to the fact that he was "running from justice." Falconer arrested him,
and Teddy pleaded for Falconer to do the right thing and let him go.
Bolt had talked about retiring to some island somewhere, and the last
scene was that surrealistic (take-off on some movie I can't remember -
Casablanca?) where Teddy and Falconer drove Bolt to the airport and let
him go, then got back in the police van and drove away. We kind of
imagined Bolt flying off into the wild-blue-yonder, to retire on some
distant, peaceful island. I'd like to imagine Mark like that now, but
I can't shake the feeling of grief that his wife must feel, knowing that
he won't be here to see his young daughters grow up. That's just too
sad.
Keeper of everything you ever wanted to know about "Sisters"' plots,

Hi everyone. I thought I would post this here for those who might
have missed it over on r.a.t.s.m or r.a.tv. I got this from a friend
shortly after he passed on; I'm guessing it's from a British newspaper
or something similar.
