I’ve witnessed a lot of stupid over the course of my relatively short
time on earth. I have modern day feminism to thank for roughly 50% of
that.
Then I came across this column, and just had to shake my head in sorrow.
Prepare yourself for incredibly high levels of mumbo jumbo.
Hannah Schneider, a junior communications major and creative writing
minor, recently wrote an op-ed for The Daily News, describing her
disgust of pro-life displays. (Don’t worry though. She’s super
tolerant. She pinky swears!)
Her opposition isn’t really anything new. It wasn’t too long ago that
students over at Johns Hopkins lost their minds because JHU’s Voice For
Life wanted to have a display showing fetal development at the
university’s Spring Fair. Liberals argued that the display contained
“triggering and disturbing images.” But back to Schneider, the most
tolerant woman in all the land.
Near the busiest intersection on campus, a large red fetus stared at me
from a poster on the ground. I instantly thought to myself, “Oh,
they’re here again…” I looked around at the children passing out fliers
discussing the inherent immorality of abortion, and I continued on to
class.
I’m lucky. I didn’t fall into complete panic at the sight—didn’t recall
traumatic clinic visits or conversations and heart-wrenching past
decisions. I had the luxury of moving on with my day, even though I was
bothered by the exposure of only one side of the argument, which lacked
respect for everyone, literally everyone, that scrambled through the
scramble light.
How does that lack respect for everyone, you ask? Don’t bother asking
her. She doesn’t feel like explaining. Instead, she goes on to say that
public displays of opinion “are all good and useful things,” but not in
this case. In fact, pro-life protests are just forms of “passive
assault.”
Yes, anti-abortion activists have the right to their beliefs. And yes,
they have the right to politically organize in order to communicate
this to the public. Of course, they can be mad. However, should they
have the right to assault people with graphic images and use minors to
provide literature about their cause? I think not. Are they effectively
destroying the concept of protest, in favor of shock and vehement
degradation?
There’s nothing shocking about it. That’s what abortion is, honey. If
pro-choicers love abortion as much as they say they do, why do they get
all uncomfortable when presented with the reality of what it is?
Instead of thinking, “Hey, maybe this practice is vile, disgusting and
inhumane,” they shut down their “open minds” and whine about “unabashed
vulgarity.”
Protest is not a synonym for aggression.
Now seeing fetus pictures is assault, you guys. This is real life. This
is what liberal “tolerance” looks like.
