Ok, this is a prelimiary version of this MST3K code... if you feel that
I need to add anything, or if you have any suggestions, please let
me know.

The MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 CODE v0.9
------------------------------------------

Michael K. Neylon
mne...@engin.umich.edu

February 8, 1997

What is the MST3K code?
-----------------------

Are you a MiSTy? Do you want to show the world that you're a MiSTy? Then this is the code for you! Simply by assembling this code and putting in in your signature, on your business cards, burning into your palm, or by various other means, you can convey your opinions and other important facts to MiSTies around the world.

Format of the code
------------------

The code begins with the letters 'MST' to represent, obviously, this code. This is then followed by the current version of the code, in this case, 'MN09' (representing Michael Neylon, v0.9). These elements are necessary, and must appear at the beginning of the code.

After this, you may use any of the following codes or combinations, in any order. You need not include them all, just what you want to let others know.

Each bit of code may or may not be separated by whitespace. Codes need not be presented in the order listed below.

Each code is case sensitive, but as of the time of this writing, you can use lower case without confusion. Be aware that future versions of this code may require case sensitivity.

For any rating, you may use the following additional characters, after the code, to indicate various feelings:

~ - You feel indifferent towards this topic. For example, "MN~"
? - You are confused by this topic. "MN?"
/ - You have two different feelings towards this topic. "MN-/++"
{} - You wish to obtain this rating in the future. "MN-{++}'
[] - You used to have this raing towards this topic. "MN++[-]"

In codes where intensity is indicated by a number of "+"s or "-"s, you can extend the scale beyond what is noted if you really feel that much, but please keep the number of extra symbols down: a row of 10 "+"s will reduce the credibility of your code.

And with that, here are the codes:

Characters/Actors
-----------------

Use the following scale to rate how you feel towards each character and/or actor.

--- I throw sharp heavy objects at the screen when this character is
on.
-- I flip the channel when this character is on-screen.
- I could care less for this character.
0 I don't have any feelings towards this character.
+ I like this character.
++ I *really* like this character.
+++ I have a shrine to this character, and/or I've written love notes
to this character.

Expand this scale as necessary in either direction.

Note that these roles are separate: Mike Nelson, the character, is different from Mike Nelson, the actor and writer.

Two special code apply to characters. If you wish to show preference to a character from a particular season, or a specific version of the characters, use "s#", where # is the season number, or "m#", where # is the revision number, after the character name code, but before the amount of feelings. For example, "I like the original Crow" would be "CRm1+" or "CRs1+".

JR - Joel Robinson
MN - Mike Nelson
TS - Tom Servo
CR - Crow T Robot
GY - Gypsy
CB - Cambot
DF - Dr. Clayton Forrester
LE - Dr. Larry Erhardt
TF - TV's Frank
PF - Mrs. Pearl Forrester
GS - Gerry and Sylvia
TO - Torgo
MB - Ms. B Natural
NU - Nuveena

I notice that the initial responses to this are a bit negative... let me
just say that when I brought the idea out to other fellow MiSTings that
I frequently talk to, they were excited about this idea. I'm not
asking that everyone accept and worship it, but if you like the idea,
it would be nice to have an MST code to share amoung friends.

(Also the fact that the mac forget to hard-feed the ends of the lines
in my first post... :-/ )

I hope that you're not including my ~4 line MST code that I sent out last
night among the negative responses. I don't know, maybe I overdid it, but
I was just funning you. I suppose it was my way of saying that I probably
wouldn't use it, but more power to those who would, without being
conventional about it. Plus, I kinda threw in a personal slam against
somebody not at all associated with this group. Sure, nobody could figure
out what the letters stood for, but the intent was wrong. Well, that's
all. No hard feelings?

JSJ1TG, I'm also sorry about the little mix-up in there...I knew I

Hurrah!!!! Yea!!! (applause)

You seem to be the first to attempt it. I think it's a swell idea, but
alas, I just don't have time to try and figure it out right now. To that
guy who invented it: consider re-posting it from time to time to see if
people catch on. Maybe someday I'll have an hour or two to read it. And do
create some symbols for Barbbb and juliewa, etc.

Don't let the negative comments get to you, it's a keen addition. It does
need some work, though... What about those of us who couldn't see the MST3K
movie because the closest theatre with it was 300 miles away, but have rented
it many times? What about other recurring characters? How about a code for
which parts of the show you like: in-theatre, movie-related skits, non-movie-

whether or not you think the word "puppet" has anything to do with the show...

Recently, on a very special episode of "Fernwood Tonight," Mark
'Kamikaze' Hughes came out and performed the following little ditty:

I can't camp out all night in Hawaii. If I tried,
there'd be nothing left of me in the morning but a
skeleton and a note from the mosquitoes: "Needs salt."
