Wow. Holy crumbs. I mean, wow. That was one of the best episodes
I think MST has ever done.
The host segments were like an abdriged verison of every Internet posting
over the past four months (including Kevin Bacon!) about the movie
coming out, and the movie was one of the most plotless things I've ever
seen - a weird mix of "Night of the Blood Beast," "The Creeping Terror,"
and "Mitchell." The riffing had me laughing so much my face is aching,
from "Caution - Filling is hot" to "Oh you cleaned up" and all the other
cheap white trash bashing to "These people are run by yards of cable and
15 operators" to the Dr Ted Nelson stuff and of course, "Careful, the
panelling is outacting you!"

Now it's time for me to get the hell out of here. Great work BBI!
(and I wonder why Julie was missing from the viewing group...hm)

This one was good, but not quite as good as 703 IMHO, mainly because the
movie itself had the unbearability level of City Limits. Also, the skits
were a bit self-indulgent (clearly goofing on their own recent experiences
with Hollywood), although it was funny to have the Brains formally
acknowledge MSTies' favorite sport of Baconizing! And the one bit where
Crow was actually directing Earth Vs Soup was a fucking riot! ("Juuuuudy,
what am I dooooing!?") One thing made me go "...the HELL?", however. That
was the story conference skit, where Pearl & Dr. Forrester suddenly pop up
on the SOL! Hell, if it's THAT easy, why do Mike and the 'Bots stay
stranded!? I know I know...it's just a show, I should really just relax.

Incredible Melting Man was really really really really really really
really (inhale) really bad! I rented it last fall to see it un-MSTed, and
my woeful review posted to the group apparently made such an impression
Petrea put it on her Season 7 page. Really knew what Crow meant when he
said, "This movie was only 80 minutes--but it felt like Berlin
Alexanderplatz!" (For those unaware, this was the crowning achievement of
Fassbinder's directing career, a mere 15 hours long.) I knew the Brains
would have to cut the bit with the topless model, but the equally
agonizing scene where the old couple was subjected to several minutes of
onscreen humiliation before being killed and eaten (the Brains also cut
out a brief cannibalism shot following the murders) got the treatment it
deserved.

Waiting now for Escape 2000, which I've never scene. I'm wondering how
much of it the Brains will cut, since every video guide I've read
describes it as repellently gory. Since most of the gore from Melting Man
was left intact, including the hilarious head-over-the-waterfall
shot...well, we'll have to wait and see.

They used a small 45% of the budget to fly a shuttle up to the SOL.

There was a lot more eating people in IMM than I remember from
seeing it as a kid. I just remembered him running around being gooey.
I was especially impressed with the way in which the security
guards chose to shoot *through* Ted Nelson rather than telling him to get
out of the way or shoot over him.

The head over the waterfall scene is one of my favorites.

Ah yeah, you're right. Didn't catch that until I watched it again on my
tape. In _knew_ should just relax! (Anyway, the guys missed a swell
hijacking opportunity, the bums.)

Crow was probably just too busy trying to figure out how to commandeer
the escape while Dr F had his voice.

Agreed. This episode is right up there with "Jungle Goddess" and
"The Creeping Terror" as one of my favorite episodes. The thing is,
I'm sure I would have been laughing a certain extent if I had
seen the non-MST'd version of this movie. God, it was horrible.
When the head came floating down the stream I thought I was gonna
pee, I was laughing so hard. And it wasn't the riffing, it was
just the stupidest terror device I'd ever seen.

The two old people were priceless. Crow's turkey noises made that
scene.

After watching that film, I've been unable to think straight all week
(failed a couple tests even). And you want them to think of a plan to
overpower Dr.F & Mom when only Mike's arms work? I could barely tie my
shoes, that movie was so disorienting. =)
