Something that has really been bothering me: A couple of years ago, I was in
a bar, and someone sang this song. It was basically a takeoff on how Barbra
Streisand always gets the movie roles to broadway musicals sung to the tune
of "Don't cry for me, Argentina". If anyone knows about this, please end my
suffering.

Okay, I know all about this. The song you refer to is from the original
(1983 or 84 version) show of "Forbidden Broadway." It is an off-broadway
show, done by 4 people--two guys, two girls--in which they attack all
broadway shows with parodies of the songs. Obviously the song you heard
was the one about _Avita_ and the quarrel between the staged and movie
versions. I saw "Forbidden Broadway 1990" in New York last April, and
suggest it to everyone--they're coming out with the 1991 version soon,
or it may be already out. I intend to see it again, and again, and again.
At the 1990 show, I purchased the CD, which (to my dismay) was the original
show and not the one I saw, although it is still funny and well done (I did
not see this show, so I don't get all of the humor) -- But this is the show
with 'Don't cry for me, Barbra Streisand" and I have heard it again and
again.

Any questions?

"Don't Cry for Me, Barbra Streisand" is one of the parody song in
_Forbidden Broadway_. I think the person singing it is supposed to be
Patty LuPone. it has some great lines, like "You'll do the movie, and I'll
go mental/when you sing Eva like you sang Yentl."

Yes, that is indeed from Forbidden Broadway, where the song

"God, it's High" (parody of "God On High") is in the Les Miserables

medley.

Great show!! (That song, "Barbra" is from the original version, whereas
the song I mentioned is on the 1990 version.)

The song is one of the many insightful and successful parodies from one of the
many versions of FORBIDDEN BROADWAY.
