"Shout Hallelujah, come on Get Happy"
And it's from the show "Hit The Deck" by Vincent Youmans

No; the song from "Hit The Deck" is called simply "Hallelujah" and it begins
"Sing Hallelujah, Hallelujah, and you'll shoo the blues away."
The song Pete was asking about is called "Get Happy," music by Harold Arlen,
lyrics by Ted Koehler. I don't know if it was from a show, but I don't think so.

From Lewine & Simon's "Songs Of The Theatre":
Get Happy - from "Nine-Fifteen Revue" (1930)
"Arlen was filling in as a rehearsal pianist for Vincent Youmans' "Great Day"
(he was actually one of the show's orchestrators). He became bored with the
obligatory "pick up", or vamp, the two bars the pianist plays preceding an
actual start to set tempo, and began improvising his own two bars. The result
was the opening strain of "Get Happy." After "The Nine Fifteen Revue" it was
sung as Judy Garland in the film "Summer Stock" (1950.)"
Somehow, Richard picked up on the Youman's connection. Cosmic...
Sounds like Judy Garland is singing it

Not only is Arlen's music incredibly sophisticated and inventive
harmonically, he has that everflowing gift for memorable melody that some of
us miss in ... er ... certain other Broadway composers. And of course he
worked with the creme de la creme of U.S. lyricists: Harburg, Mercer, Ira
Gershwin ... my God, what a career the man had! I think the magnitude of
his acheivement is only beginning to be recognized.

I completely agree! I think Harold Arlen is one of the most underrated
composers. So many great singers love and sing his music and yet so many people
know his songs without even knowing they were composed by him. Now, if only
they'd reissue that House of Flowers CD...
Take care,
