There have been a number of requests for references to cast recordings and
sountracks, so I figured I'd key in this info from some of my collection.
These are all compact discs. If others could add to the list, it could go
into a FAQ archive. [Can't do that here, this account is FOUO.] I've got
a bunch of old vinyl, too. If someone wants the info on those as well, I'll
key it in -- but vinyl may be hard to find nowadays.

Key values: OBC - Original Broadway Cast
OLC - Original London Cast

(2) Original album

I've gotten a large portion of these here in Huntsville in the past couple of
years "off the shelf" in a (chain) music store, so most of them should be
readily available. (Although I had a heckuva time finding another copy of
the OLC/2-disc set of "Starlight Express" for a gift last year.)

If anyone has a publisher/number for any of the following (CD only, I have most
of these on other media), I'd appreciate it if you'd Email me the info:

All That Jazz (movie soundtrack)
Applause, Applause (Broadway cast)
Archie and Mehitabel (Broadway cast)
Canterbury Tales (Broadway cast)
Dear World (Broadway cast)
Half a Sixpence (Broadway cast)
How Now, Dow Jones (Broadway cast)
Mame (Broadway cast)
Promises, Promises (Broadway cast)
Stop the World (movie soundtrack - got OBC already)
Sweet Charity (Broadway cast)
Walking Happy (Broadway cast)
The Wiz (movie soundtrack - got OBC already)

I don't know how else to say this, but there are a lot of holes in your
collection--I have several hundred CDs myself, and my collection is far
from complete.

I once asked Andrew Ku (the maintainer of the FAQ) if he would like me
to add serial numbers and recording timings to the FAQ. He responded
that it would be a lot of work, and that most people wouldn't care for
the additional info anyway. Besides, it would mean a complete rewrite
of part 2 of the FAQ.

If there's really sufficient interest, perhaps you and I could
collaborate on an archive of such information, provided of course that
some site would be willing to provide disk space.

I sort of doubt that the interest is there, though.

Where is the FAQ available? I don't remember seeing one. Thanks.

It's available at world.std.com, ftp.std.com, and rtfm.rutgers.edu
(I think) via anonymous FTP.

for world.std.com, I think it's in /RAT-archive/FAQ

and for ftp.std.com, it's in /archives/RAT-archive

I hope I got these right--I really should know this by heart by
now. When in doubt, pwd and ls.

If there is any further interested in a complete listing of original cast
recordings that have been tranferred or originated on CD, I can probably
figure out how to download my alpha file onto some list--and it could be
stored here at MIT.

I have all but one of the US original cast recordings that I know to have
been issued on CD--and all but two or three of the British (London) OCRs.
And it all on a disc in several ways--title, label and #, source (American,
British, Foreign, soundtrack, etc), year of recording, composer, lyricist.

I have not gotten around to doing the main cast as of yet.

in re _does anyone know where to find..._
Has the soundtrack of _Destry Rides Again_, with Andy
Griffen as Destry, ever made it to CD?

I'd love to see such a list. I have over 200 titles in my collection, but
know that I have a long way to go and am always looking for good new recordings
to buy. I'd be willing to donate all of the info on my collection as well.

"MAME" (Broadway Cast) is available on CD -Columbia CK 3000

Hope that is helpful. BTW, I am looking for CD versions of two musicals:
The Apple Tree
Your A Good Man, Charlie Brown

Anybody know if they're available?

Yes, The original cast album of The Apple Tree is available on CD from
Sony Broadway. Is anyone else out there a little ticked that Sony is
re-releasing all of these older shows at full price? (Some of the other
labels are re-releasing older shows at $9-12 per CD not the $16-18 price of
the Sonys.)

You're a Good Man Charlie Brown IS available on tape. It should also be on
CD. There were two issues: the original off-b'way and a London production.
Same's true of Snoopy. Try Tower Records or you cal call a place in lower
Manhatten called Footlights. They not only have everything, but they can get
everything else!

Yes, they are both available. The Apple Tree is available on CD from
CBS/Sony, 3020-CK. I'm not sure what company released Charlie Brown, but
I have seen and heard of it - so it does exist.

Regarding SNOOPY--there are currently two versions of SNOOPY available:
DRG (#6103) is the US cast and TER (1073) is the London (and IMHO the
superior) cast. The TER/London is a reissue of an earlier Polydor CD
reissue which was withdrawn from circulation almost immediately--very
few copies were ever made.

YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN was in the same Polydor series that SNOOPY
was CDized in--and withdrawn at the same time. There never was a recording
of a London cast of YAGMCB, as far as I can determine.

The latter has been out for some years. The former has just been
released on Sony's overpriced "20-bit sound" reissue series.
