Hi all....

We had a thread about favorite Les Mis and Phantom roles, now let's do a
thread over favorite casts for Miss Saigon. Here are my picks:

Kim--Lea Salonga or Melanie Tojio
Chris--Peter Lockyer
Ellen--Tami Tappan
John--Keith Byron Kirk
Thuy--Allan Hong
Engineer--Kevin Gray
Gigi--Moon Hi Hanson

Yeah, I basically choose my picks over the live performance that I saw in
L.A. plus the Original London cast recording of Miss Saigon.

Let me know what your thoughts on my choices and your picks.... =)

Yours,
Erin

*gasp* - Erin didn't choose Lea alone for Kim!?

I would write my list of favourites (now that I've seen it 3
times and can actually compare), but I can't remember any names!

No - I've just remembered one - Junix Inocian (sp?) as the Engineer.

And out of the 3 Chrises I've seen , I'd pick the only one whose
name I can't remember. Typical!

Joanna Ampil was good...Simon Bowman was weak...Jaqui Scott's voice was
too operatic for my taste, but yes, Junix is great! (Seen him twice)

These are my $.02:

Kim: Lea Salonga (of course) but I really really really loved Rona Figueroa
too

Chris: Eric Kunze or Sean McDermott (I *loved* how he screams "NO!!" at
the end)

Ellen: Candese Marchese (a wonderful voice)

John: Hinton Battle (very moving)

Engineer: I liked Herman Sebek but I think I can see a better one

Gigi: the girl on the Japanese recording

I've seen this show over 6 times -- on Broadway (x2), London, Chicago, & L.A.(x2) -- I've heard the London cast and the CSR. Here are my picks:

Engineer: Francis Ruvivar
Kim : Joanna Ampil or Lea Salonga (too close)
Chris: Sean McDermott
Ellen: Liz Callaway
John: Hinton Battle

For both Thuy and Gigi -- there are so many that I can't think of just one that stands out for either --

Keep the faith,

interesting. i saw candese marchese do eponine a couple years ago in
detroit. i have to jump on the eric kunze bandwagon, but i also _really_
liked jarrod emmick, even though he had a few nasal notes. and of course
lea, and _definitely_ kevin gray. i hated his phantom, but _loved_ his
engineer. go figure.

Overall, I'd pick the people in the original London cast, though I'd
probably replace Keith Burns with Allen Hong.

I had the misfortune of missing Lea in her Broadway debut but I maintain
she is the best Kim by far.

As for those I *have* seen:

KIM

London - Joanna Ampil
Toronto - Ma-Anne Dionisio
Broadway - Rona Figueroa
Los Angeles - Jennifer Paz

*My pick is Ma-Anne Dionisio. Her voice and power was breath-taking.
Joanna came a close-second.

ENGINEER

London - Junix Inocian
Toronto - Kevin Gray
Broadway - Raul Aranas
Los Angeles - Kevin Gray

*Kevin hands down.

CHRIS

I have yet to see a Chris that really satisfied me although John Barrowman
of London and Peter Lockyer of LA weren't bad. Eric Kunze went to DC
when I was in NY.

I saw the London production over the Summer and was really impressed. This was my fourth visit to the show, the two previous ones had left me really disillusioned as the cast, except Kim(Joanne Ampil) was awful. This time was totally different however and I fell in love with the story yet again. I had not heard of anyone in the cast, except Junix Inocian(he was the Engineer and was an original cast member). I thinkm it is a wonderful cast and would probably beat most of these fantasy casts that I have been reading about. I thought the current London John, Thuy and Gigi were better than those chosen for the CSR.

This is the cast I saw(Broadway Aug/94) I will agree with you they did an
excellent job. Raul Aranas was the perfect Engineer we saw the Wed. matinee
so we saw the other Kim(Emy Baysic) and she was awsome.

Good choices! I was lucky enough to see the original cast on Bway with
Jonathan Pryce, Lea Salonga, and Hinton Battle. The only cast that is
just about as good is Rona Figueroa as Kim, Eric Kunze as Chris, Raul
Aranas as The Engineer, Tami Tappan as Ellen, and Sharon Leal as Gigi. I
also saw Emy Baysic who was an excellent Kim also.
