My dad recently purchased a demo recording LP of "Gantry" the musical
based on Elmer Gantry - it stars Rita Moreno and Robert Shaw. I know
that the musical itself opened and closed in one day in 1970. I was
unable to find any info on this record in any of the price guides.
Anyone know anything else about the record? Potential value?
thanks
I have no idea of the value... but I imagine a few people, like me for
example, are a bit envious of your dad! I think that the record company had
already printed an album cover before canceling the recording session of the
OBC. What is the demo's cover like?

Demo recordings were/are done prior to a show going into production in
order to advertise the score for potential investors. They are not
produced with the intention of public sale so, therefore, you won't
find a listing for it in any record guide price book. They do have
value within the musical theatre collectors market, however. Your
best bet would be to give a call or e-mail to Footlight Records in New
York City. I believe their website is www.footlight.com. They'd be
able to tell you what its potential value is.

Nicholas Van Hoogstraten's "Lost Broadway Theatres" is available through

and is definitely worth having. If I recall, it has photos and information
about this "lost" theatre
