Marie's Law from Fiorello.
Eager Beaver from No Strings.
I Taught Her Everything from Funny Girl.
Find Yourself a Man from Funny Girl.
Words Words Words from Bajour.
Two Lost Souls from Damn Yankees.

There are lots more, I am sure.

Racking my brain for some examples,
I have come up with the following:

Sign of the Times - Blood Brothers
Glad You Didn't Know Me - Is There Life After High School?
A Little Priest - Sweeney Todd
Round and Round - The Fantasticks

This is all I could come up with.
You are right, there are not too many male/female duets
that are not love songs

Well the last two could be loosely called love songs, as at least one of
the characters in both songs isin love with the other... I thought of
"unworthy of your Love" from ASSASSINS, but in a way that's a love song,
though their nopt in lvoe with each other... How about "Waltz for Eva and
Che" in EVITA?

Also "Wick" from _The Secret Garden_ (ok, ok, so one of the singers
is 10)

Possibly "Mermaid Song" from _Aspects_, although that's debatable.

For the very good reason that it's a female duet; there's a one-line
reprise by the male lead, but that doesn't qualify. Sigh.

There is one in Romance/Romance (2nd act) where the spouses sing
about the "infidelities" of their mates. I can't remember the name.

More a trio than a duet, but how about "Rain in Spain" from My Fair
Lady? I'm not even sure if this one counts as a duet?

Also - what about "Kids" from Bye Bye Birdie?

How about "Please" from Miss Saigon? That's with John and Kim. . .John was
simply informing Kim about Chris, and Kim was singing about meeting Chris
after three years of pain.

I missed the first article in this thread. Oh well.

I just finished working on a production of "Anything Goes" (1987 (88?)
version) and there are a couple of Male/Female non-love song duets in that
show.
"You're the Top" is sung by Billy and Reno.
"Friendship" is sung by Moon and Reno

Hope this helps.

Sung during Act 1 by Reno to cheer up Billy when he is feeling bumbed out
about his chances of winning Hope's heart. Basically, each charater is
trying to out do the other with compliments.

>"Friendship" is sung by Moon and Reno

Sung during the first act, right before the Lord Evelyn state room scene.
(sorry I don't know scene numbers, I just remember what I was suppost to
move, who had what entrances and what props they needed when.)
This one is a song sung by Moon Faced Martin (Public Enemy number 13, help
Police.) and Reno Sweeney. Pretty much they are saying that no matter what
happens to one of them, the other will help them out.

Moon: "If you ever loose your teeth when you're out to dine, borrow mine."
etc..

It seems to me that there must be some "duets of mutual disappoint-
ment," i.e. the male character from one plot and the female
character from another plot commiserate together about how their
respective lives (and probably loves) are not going well. I
can't think of any off the top of my head, though. Anyone whose
memory is quicker than mine?

Kind of like a male/female version of "Agony" from _Into the Woods_, eh?

hm... i tend to see duets as more of an interweaving of two different
parts, complementing each other. i'm not sure if 'rain in spain' counts,
cause they're basically singing separately.

Though interpolated into versions of ANYTHING GOES, "Friendship" is
actually from Cole Porter's DuBARRY WAS A LADY (1939). The song was
introduced by Ethel Merman and Bert Lahr. "DuBarry"'s score is one of
Porter's best and most neglected (even the book by Herbert Fields & B.G.
DeSylva holds up surprisingly well). Filled with great songs like "It
Ain't Etiquette," "Come On In," and "Well Did You Evah," DuBARRY WAS A
LADY features one of the theatre's funniest double-entendre male/female
duets, "But in the Morning, No!" You can probably guess what the title
refers to...

I don't know a lot of the songs that you listed too well, but some of
them definately are love songs. "Little Fall of Rain" is clearly a love
song on Eponine's part, and probably partially on Marius' part as well.
Just because the relationship didn't take hold doesn't diminish from the
song.

> Two Lost Souls-Damn Yankees

Any song that ends with the line, "we got each other!" has got to be a
love song. Besides, who is Lola supposed to end up with -- Joe's married!

> Sue Me-Guys And Dolls

"Sue me, sue me, shoot bullets through me, I love you..." Hmmmmm. Not a
love song, heh? Perhaps a lover's tiff, but nonetheless a love song.

Jess,
Sue Me is a love song. Nathan even ends it singing "I Love you"..it's not
a conventinal love song because it's comic..but Nathan and Adelaide, in
their own ways, profess their love.

I Believe . . . is a love song in my book; Tennis Song is a sex song, if
not exactly a love song--I think it counts as the same. I'm not sure I
would count Hello, Little Girl, as a duet. It's reallya featur e piece for
the Wolf, and since he and Riding Hood never sing together, I would call
it a solo with conversation added by Riding Hood.

Good list though.
