Synopsis: As a gift for negotiating with the Orion Syndicate, Captain
Archer receives three Orion Slave Girls.
MJC Review:
The Drama -
There's nothing like a delightfully entertaining episode with hot
Orion chicks to perk up the fans! The opening dance scene of them was
as about erotic as you can get on public TV. Although their presence
on the Enterprise was subversive, their interaction with the crew was
somewhat comedic like. Men would drop to the floor over them and women
would get a head-ache over jealousy. Their seductive "power"
definitely overwhelmed Archer. Those pheromones brought out some
pretty good basic male instinct in him. We know that the "other" chief
engineer scored with one. His desire for one enraged the already harsh
feelings he had for Trip and drove him to sabotage the ship. What
trouble certain women can cause.
More interesting developments occur in the Trip/T'Pol romance front.
Viewers find out that their "get-together" from season three has
resulted in a somewhat psychic bond between the two. This made Trip
immune to the Orion female pheromones (doesn't even know what he
missed!). Both have been "daydreaming" about one another. Trip has
requested a transfer back to Enterprise. It'll be interesting to see
how this romance plays out, but it does look like that it is
developing much better and consistent than what has been tried in the
last three season. The kiss by T'Pol was somewhat out of character for
a Vulcan expressing "affection". One can't expect scene writing to be
perfect all the time.
This episode served TOS well in its portrayal of Orion women. Kirk
would be proud! I'm sure life-size posters of green Orion slave women
will be a hot item at the next Star Trek convention.
Tid Bits -
1) Mayweather pumps irons to avoid thinking about sex.
2) Phlox gets sleepy around Orion women.
3) Hoshi gets head-aches around Orion women.
4) Orion women are the actual bosses in the their culture.
5) T'Pol makes a joke.....sorta.
6) Wonder how Porthos was affected by the pheromones?
What it all means -
The Orion syndicate wants Archer's head - attached or not.
