Merritt Butrick most famously appeared in Star Trek movies: The Wrath
of Khan(1982) and The Search for Spock(1984). Also in US tv comedy
series "Square Pegs" (1982 - 83). Later he appeared in a Star Trek:
The Next Generation - episode playing "T'Jon" in episode: "Symbiosis"
(episode # 1.20) 16 April 1988. He also featured in other tv
programmes and films.
I'm an amateur researcher/writer and am currently working on a project
(in it's infancy) looking into the lives of celebrities who have died
young - from AIDS related complications/drugs/suicide/accidents etc...
I'm intrigued by Merritt for three main reasons: 1) I feel genuine
sadness when I learnt that he died so young, just when he was making
it 'big' in tv and films, 2) I respect his not making an issue of his
homosexuality (although this remains unproven) and the fact that he
had AIDS in his working life, and 3) as far as my research has gone so
far, I cannot find ANY relevant information about him, his life, work
and untimely death.
I would be grateful for any information you have in relation to the
following: birth/childhood details; description of family; high
schooling; first acting experiences; college experiences; tv/movie
debuts (with anecdotal evidence); any stories from his time on "square
pegs", the Star Trek movies, and Star Trek: TNG plus any other notable
moments; his 'alleged' homosexuality and coming to terms with AIDS;
his death and any memorial tributes/obituaries. Any further contacts
you might have would be gratefully received also.
