Just had a thought. Why do so many planets
in ST all have breathable atmosphere, where it
seems that the likelyhood of such compared to
non-breathable one seems to tilt towards the
latter? Of course one can argue that they only
show their adventures in planets with a breathable
atmosphere, but .... any comments?

I'd place it like this. As you cross america on the highway, there are
many more areas that are unpopulated and deserted than are. You know due
to maps, ands signs where to stop. In the ST era, it would be the same,
most planets they go to they already know. Therefore it would make sence
that they have breathable atmosphere. There are many more systems and
planets that get ignored.
