I was wondering if anyone knew whether the opening of Voyager will start with

"Space, the final frontier, these are the voyages...."

in Mulgrew's (Janeway's) voice?

Hmmmm, I never thought of that and I haven't seen it mentioned here yet
although I am relatively new to this newsgroup....but what do you think folx?
What have you heard? I don't think they will start with "Space, the final...."
But I'm sure it will have it's own unique startrekesque(new vocab there?)hehe
beginning. I like DS9's beginning...it's peaceful and serene I think.
Whereas TNG is the classic beginning with the voice over. Anyway, let's see
what happens...that's what I always say

As long as it doesn't end with the dumb line..

"and the name of the ship, is Voyager" ;)

(Not a comment on the show...just on that line)

Believing that she could make Paramount more money than ever thought possible,
Captain Kathryn Janeway stepped into the Star Trek accelerator... and VANISHED!
She awoke to find herself in a quadrant of the Galaxy not her own, urged by some
not-so-mysterious force to get the hell back to Earth. Her only companions on
this journey are the crews of the U.S.S. Voyager and a Maquis ship. So Kate
finds herself warping from story to story, hoping every time that the next trip

I doubt it. It wouldn't sound right, just like it wouldn't sound right
for DS9, which is why they don't HAVE it for DS9. Just my thoughts.

Strange, I remember hearing that DS9 didn't have a monologue because the
intention of the series was to be different to the classic view of ST (ie
beginning with a monologue).

Though, I don't believe a monologue would work for Voyager. It would sound like
they're trying to replace ST:TNG.

I disagree about whether it would sound right. The writers could have
altered the "Final Frontier" monologue for DS9 - God knows I miss it - and I
think they should DEFINITELY have it for Voyager. This new series, more than
any other, I think, will be about the exploration of space. To not carry over
the monologue, which I have always regarded as a excellent mission statement,
would be a greivous error.

The disadvantage, of course, is that -- like the closing credits which
have local station voice-overs -- the monologue gets in the way of the
actual *theme*. Given that, I don't particularly mind not having it
there one DS9; if the VOYAGER theme is as good, I'd inclined to go
with the new pattern. Of course, if I don't like the VOYAGER theme,
I'll typically just fast forward through it regardless of monologue...

To have a voice over for any ship other then the Enterprise,
would be quite stupid, they really don't deserve it..

Considering the nature of the ST:Voyager premise, seems to me
it would make more sense to have something like

These are the adventures of the Starship Voyager
Its mission: To figure out where the hell it is
To avoid all the really dangerous things which are likely to be lurking nearby
And to hightail it home as quickly as possible

I was disapointed<sp?> when DS9 came with no monologue. Avery Brooks has a perfect
voice for it (IMHO ONLY) - I say that from some of his log entries, while the visual
shows the space station exterior(eg Babel).
The odd thing is that there is a sort of monologue on back of the videos, that goes
something like this(from memory only):

These are the adventures of deep space nine....

Thats all I can remember at the moment(will have a look at a video case sometime!)

I don't see why we can't have a monologue for Voyager. It has been what identified
Startrek from the outset. I can understand paramount missing DS9 out, due to the fact
that it is a space station, but this is a Starship.

I dont think the "These are the voyages of the Starship Voyager would work quite right,
but I thought that something like this might be ok:

These are the adventures of the Starship Voyager
Its mission: To discover new worlds,
To seek out new life and new civilizations,
To Boldly go Where no one has gone before.

I think i've got it all - memory is defintly<sp?> failing!

I know some people will say I'm being sentimental, and the whole monologue should be
scrapped, but I think we need it to say "This IS Startrek, and not any other Sc-fi
show"

Anyway thats what I think, feel free to comment, flame or anything else you feel
apropriate.
And if Paramount are watching/reading maybe we will hear Kate Mulgrew doing the
monologue.

All Opionions expressed are my own!

I think it would be acceptable if we didn't hear a voice-over for the
first show (much like how the wormhole wasn't visible in the first DS9
opening (but it's there in re-runs!))
If there was a voice-over before they got shot out to the other side of
nowhere, then it wouldn't be applicable when they are there.
What they SHOULD do is leave it empty for the first voyage...and when
they're out there for show #2 trying to get home, they can say something
like "The U.S.S. Voyager - shot halfway across the galaxy by an unknown
force. Our mission is simple...to return home." (But not as cheesy of
course.) Anything about "returning home" before they get shot across the
galaxy would be silly.

Hey, I know, how 'bout:

"Fleeing from the Dominion tyranny, the lost starship Voyager
leads a rag-tag fugitive Maquis ship/crew on a lonely quest for
a shining planet... known as Earth."

Well, the monologue matches the ship design, I think. Seriously,
though, I'm looking forward to seeing what Voyager has to offer.
From the pictures I've seen on the WWW site, it looks like it
has potential. The bridge has much more of a TOS feel to it
than a TNG (most like the bridge styles seen in STVI, I think).

I hope that that's not the speech! How cheezy!!
If they come with something as bad as the above opening, then I for one
SINCERELY HOPE that they have *nothing* said during the intro.!!!
Actually, if you think about it, the ending sounds like a rip-off of
QUANTUM LEAP -- hoping that the next one will take him home.
*SIGH*. And you people protesting want a fan-liason between Paramount
and Trekkers? I'll take THEIR writing and ideas ANY DAY over this crap!!

Actually, it reminded me of the Linda Hamilton voiceover at the beginning of T2

The probable reality is that there will no intro-voice-over for Voyager. I say
this because that does not seem to be Rick Berman's style. DS9 is his show and
it does not have an intro-voice-over.
