We are all jealous of him, that is what is wrong. HE gets to fly around
in a starship. HE gets to visit strage new worlds. HE gets to fall in
love with beautiful women that turn into 8 foot tall gorillias.
Because he gets it and we don't, we hate him

What is wrong with Wesley? Why dear ole chap, it's like this.
Wesley is every mothers perfect little son. Except, for Beverly, he is a
little TOO perfect. I have never actually come to admire Wesley, and I
deplore the scripts the TNG episodes he is protrayed in.
The goddie-tooshoe Wesley "SAVES THE DAY!" - again, and again, and
again.
If I do recall, in the first season, Wesleys scientific ideas
(especially the episode where he learns how to reverse a tractor beams
pull) are absolutely 'amazing'. It engulfs the viewer and really
overwealms. And, after 5 or six episodes where Wesley 'saves' the day, I
do find watching him rather annoying and boring.
But, don't get me wrong. What would ST:TNG be without Wesley? Picards
'semi-adopted' son... It does give Picard something to be proud of.
ST:TNG without Wesley is like a Peanut Buster Parfait without ice-cream.
Edward.
The crew of the Big E bound and gagged him and sent him to the Duras
sisters in appreciation for sparing Worf during the Klingon civil war.
They are using him as a sex toy.

That may very well be true. . . nevertheless, I can't say that I miss him,
now that he's at the Academy. :-)

Hmmm, talk about you intellgent come backs! Sheezz, the logic of that arguement
is VERY hard to refute, but let's see if I can try...
PROVE IT with some evidence!!!!!
He never got into a fight! He's such a wimp, he never even tried to pick
a fight! I mean, look at Worf! Now there's a REAL MAN! He was always ready
to go, phasers a-blasting. Yar was a REAL MAN too. She knew martial arts,
and she could kick some serious butt! But Wesley? Please, when was the
last time you saw him use his fists? Even Picard has gotten into a scrap
every now and then.
:-) add as necessary....
Now, seriously, here's why I hate him:
He's a plot device. A crutch. Every time there's something wrong that
no one can figure out (drum roll, please) TA, TA-DUM! Wesley, the Wonder
Boy, saves the day.
Now I know that everyone saves the day every now and then, but:
1) Wesley saved the day with alarming frequency
2) Wesley seemed to know so much more than people who had been training for
this kind of stuff since before he was born.
Give me a break. If Wesley were so damned smart, why not just clone 200 copies
of him and get everyone the hell off the ship? It's obvious they aren't
necessary. Oh yeah, keep Data on in case there's ever something that affects
humans (some gas or whatever), and you're set.

Wesley is a Whining Whimpering Wussy Wimp. Children do not belong aboard a
starship. Maybe as a Cabin Boy - your turn in the barrel, Wes.
(Arrr-be-dar, Wes, ever seen the wheels on a ship? Just bend over that railing
and you'll see them wayyyy down there...)

I'm glad you were not serious there, I was ready to cut you to sreads for
being a macho-moronic fool.

Well, I'm sorry but I only think you're half right. True, he is a plot device,
but then EVERY character is! How many times had Data's special abilities saved
the day? How many times has Goerdie's (sp?) visor pick-up something just in
the nick o' time?
Why can't Wesley's special abilities save the day a few times? Now, I agree,
he does do it quite a bit, and they probably over-used his character a little
without showing a faluire ever now and then. I liked to Academy Episode thou,
it was a VERY good Wes, one I'd like to see more of. I just don't think wes
it THAT aweful of a character.

Of course I was kidding. :-)

Yes, you're right here. However, every time something called for pure
and simple brainpower, as opposed to quick calculating (Data), or the
ability to see tachyons (Geordi), it was almost always Wesley who figured
it out.
An example would be "The Naked Now". In the end, it was Data who saved the
ship, because he was the only one who could fix the whatchamacallit fast
enough (android reflexes). But who's idea was it to get Data to do it?
Wesley! Why? Why couldn't someone *else* have thought of it? This is
just one example, but it's not alone. The fact remains that whenever
the script called for someone to use a little deductive reasoning, or use a
little ingenuity, Wesley was always the man for the job. It got old very,
very, quickly.

I agree 100%. There's nothing wrong with him saving the day "a few times."
I also agree that he does do it quite a bit, and they probably over-used
his character a little. And I really liked the Academy Episode, too, because
it showed that he was *human*. Not so much the fact that he screwed up, but
that he made a mistake, then he tried to cover it up (a very human thing to
do), he got scared, he lied, he did everything he could to save his butt.
When none of that worked, he told the truth.
These are the things that make us human: getting scared, making mistakes,
and sometimes even lying. This is something that the character needed
a long time ago.

I have to agree, Wesley Crusher is a great character; intelligent,
witty, sophisticated, charming, talented, he has all the qualities I so
admire in a Star Fleet officer. Who wouldn't trade places with
someone so obviously in tune with other peoples feelings and needs?
I've always dreamt of being aboard the Starship Enterprise, hurtling
through space, a young ensign, bound for greatness. A young ensign who
could solve any problem, handle any situation, just by being present in
the same room, just by focusing his mind for an instant. In my youth,
after watching an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation,
I remember turning to my brother and saying:
'I want to be just like Wesley.'
My brother, of course, agreed totally. He too had dreamt of being like
Wesley; out there in the far reaches of the galaxy, in command,
unstoppable. He too had come to respect such an awesome figure,
such a mystical, magical boy. Over the years Wesley has become an
idol to me in every way, a symbol of all that is honest and true,
a beacon to guide me home, a source of inspiration, knowledge, hope.
Who could forget such incisive dialogue? All those tender
moments as he grew towards manhood? The loyal protection he gave
Captain Picard when he was suffering heart trouble? The anguish he
felt when he discovered his girl friend was a shape shifting metamorph?
It disgusts me to think that anyone could find flaws in such a
flawless creation. The character who has inspired and profoundly moved
so many fans deserves all the praise he can get. Three cheers for
Wesley Crusher, in all the known universe, there is no-one I admire
more.
