With all the references to Kei of Naughty Pair, (the Japanese Anime/Manga
series), I just realized that "Keiko" means "little Kei", (or "child of Kei",
if you translate literally). I didn't see the written Japanese, so I have no
idea if it's the SAME KEI kanji. Also, does anyone know about Rosiland Chao ?
The last name is probably Chinese, but not likely to be Japanese. (Don't flame
me, it seems perfectly acceptable to have a Brit play a Frenchman (Picard) --
I'm just curious about the actress.
From my reference books, Rosiland Chao had major roles in "The Terry Fox Story"
and "White Ghost" (1988, William Cat as Rambo -> turkey). Looks like she might
get more exposure in ST:DSN.

Rosiland Chao (sp?) is indeed of Chinese, not Japanese, descent.

Don't forget that she played Soon-Lee (I think that was her name), Max
Klinger's Korean wife during the last season of M*A*S*H and in AfterM*A*S*H.

She also had the lead role in "Five Pieces of Gold". Interesting
historical story about overcoming hardship. Nothing major, just
being sold into slavery by your father (so he can feed the rest of
his family), being shipped to 19th San Franscisco, and being bought
again and transported to an Oregon mining camp to be the
(income generating) property of the camp boss.
Good movie if you like historical films with an actual story and
aren't dissapointed by a lack of gratuitous sex and violence. Worth renting.

She was also in a VERY GOOD movie called "1000 Pieces of Gold" or something
like that. I saw it on PBS a few months ago. I think it was a couple of
years old. It was about a Chinese women whose father sells into slavery who
is then brought to America during the gold rush. She is then bought by a pimp
to be his 'wife' but she eventually finds love and freedom. I believe it is
based on a true story. This isn't a very good description but I hope you get
the idea. She was excellent in it!!

Actually it's called "A Thousand Pieces of Gold." She's worth more than
five. :-) Maybe you were confusing the title with "Five Easy Pieces."

Actually I was disappointed. It was on one of the local PBS stations
during election night and I kept switching back to it hoping to see
some gratuitous sex. Saw a few tease shots but nothing to recommend.
She does have a peasant sexiness to her, though, trapsing through the
mud carrying a couple of buckets over her shoulders. Her favorite line
seemed to be "No whore!" everytime a man came near her. There was one
light bondage scene where she had her wrists tied to a table while men
bid for her.

Wasn't she also in a Quantum Leap episode from last season?

No, that was Tamlyn Tomita (assuming we're talking about the same
episode: she played a psychic who was going to be the next target of a
serial killer); she's going to be a major cast member of Babylon 5...

Rosiland Chao won't be in the first few episodes since she just had
a kidlet (I found this out at the Dreamwerks convention in Chicago
during Majel Barrett's talk).
