Personally, I would really enjoy a movie (series is more likely) of
the earlier Academy exploits of Kirk and Company! The idea Berman(?)
had to use Shatner, et al, in framing sequences really appealed to me,
but whether the original cast was involved or not, seeing a young
hell-bent for leather Kirk as well as young Spock, Uhura, Sulu and a
not quite as young McCoy and Scotty would please me no end!
Anyone else?

For 1996, Playmates is making "Starfleet Academy" action figures of
the TNG crew. Young Picard, Riker, et al. Each one comes with a CD-ROM
that explains it all.

How about this: pick up on a group of cadets during their last year at the
academy (first season) and then at the end of that season they graduate and
the main characters get posted to the same starship, then the series runs
from then on. Explore space, kill Romulans, save the universe/humanity a
few hundred times...ya know, the normal ST stuff.

Oh, great. "Starfleet Academy, 90210." Will Aaron Spelling produce it?

ki...@tricon.net splurged forth:

No. Let me see... (fumbling for Star Trek Chronology book.) When Kirk
is at the Academy...

SPOCK is one year ahead of him.
McCOY is not even at the Academy, but at medical school.
SCOTTY is eleven years older and presumably already out in Starfleet.
SULU is still in high school.
UHURU is also still in high school.
CHEKOV is five.

On second thoughts, I *do* want to see this movie, if only to see what
kind of a cast is assembled to play *this* crew! :-)

Cheers,
Grant.

Why start there, I mean the story withing 1 season would just be another
TNG/Voyager clone. I think the idea is a great on but I think they should
start and follow new cadets through the academy from their first year. Show
what it takes to be in starfleet, how they get trained, the troubles they have
to overcome. I think that would be a good addition to the Star Trek
shows....just call it:

Star Trek: Academy

I mean we have all seen what happens after and in the series we hear stories
of what Starfleet was like so why not show it?

Suddenly, Voyager doesn't seem that bad.

The BBC have been covering the republican primaries in a jokey
'look what the yanks are up to now' style. The right wing looney
Buchanan(sp?) just won the latest vote. And, commenting on the poor field
of candidates, the BBC reporter said Dan Quayle must be kicking himself
because he didn't stand.

Yeah sure!

I think It'd be a great idea....

I live in the UK, and so haven't seen the fourth series of DS9 -
comes out next Monday, I believe - but I think it would be great to
follow a group of characters (including Nog?) through the Academy. I
think it would appeal to a lot of people in that it would show exactly
what is required to become a starfleet officer. They could have
simulations, on various ships (thereby utilizing a large majority of
sets) and could even feature favourite cast members (Riker, Picard, Sisko
etc) lecturing on certain topics.
Imagine the scene, Nog discovers that his best friend at the
Academy is actually a changeling...

The possibilities are endless....

Hey, at least we don't have an embarrasing royal family here! And don't
worry--Pat Buchanan cannot and will not last as a viable candidate. As
soon as either Lamar Alexander or Bob Dole drops out, the moderate vote
will consolidate and kick Pat's ass. Not that I care--I'm a Democrat
who's enjoying the proceedings. And Pat won't beat President Clinton,
not by a long shot.

Just my two slips of latinum on THAT non-"Trek" matter...
