Since there are apparently some folks here who hide under their beds
when I'm not around to protect them from Big Bad Spammy, here is your
fair warning:

Work is getting crazy again, so I'll be scarce for the next week or
two.

Do keep us posted on the concurrent disasters and plagues,
assuming they don't knock out your Usenet access, or see
you running from zombies (or Daleks), etc.

It's always the case that some blame the management, and some
the employees. These are classic symptoms of a monetary squeeze.

If, when you come back, all of our nice houses made of straws and
sticks have been blown down and we're all devoured, it'll be your
fault, sir. Your fault!

Work. Pff.

...never could understand that.

I have seen people get violent with a supermarket checker over some
store policy issue.

It is:
1. Ineffective -- as he has nothing to do with policy
2. Rude -- because you don't know #1
3. Cowardly -- because he must just stand there and take it and the
bitcher won't go to management.
4. Stupid -- for all of the above.

Similar rules apply when chewing out the wait staff for bad food.

cheers, anyway

oz, chronic bitcher, but to the right people

Did you hear that on ITV or BBC?

It's also a universal truth that IT people view (l)users as The

One place I worked had a customer drive his car over two or three
cash registers because he didn't like the return policy.

If that's the case, then it is management's fault. One of the most
important moments in training for retail is when you're told, "If
you get an angry customer, call a manager. You don't get paid
enough to eat shit. We do."

Ergo, if bozo won't go to management, management *needs* to come to
bozo, whether bozo wants to talk to management or not.

Indeed, they, too, should immediately summon a manager. If they
don't, either they, or the management, are at fault for forcing the
customer to deal with someone who simply can't fix the problem.

I agree, but it's less annoying than the alternative.

We'll try to remember your golden rule:

Build a spammer a fire he'll be warm for the night.
Set a spammer on fire he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

But nobody disses spammers like you do, so come back soon.

I'll be checking in, but not several times a day for a while.
