Doesn't the email RFC say *@domain.com should be supported? Not that anyone
actually uses the whole RFC lol

Yes, but that's on the "accept-for-forwarding" part of things.
If you have it set up to accept "*@a.b.c" and forward that to
"bi...@x.y.z" then e-mail "b...@a.b.c" and "ca...@a.b.c" will both end up
in "bi...@x.y.z"'s mailbox.
