I saw this one at the book store yesterday and wondered if it is
as bad as "Windrider's Oath". I read the flap and it sounds as
if it is. The first 2 Bahzell books were really good, but Weber
forgot how to write them in the long gap between "War Gods Own" and
Windrider. I don't figure he has improved but thought I would see
if anybody has read it yet and has an opinion.

Well, I enjoyed both _Windrider's Oath_ and _War Maid's Choice_, but
YMMV always applies to reading pleasure.

Well, I will by "War Maid's Choice" next year when it comes out in
paperback, but I don't have much hope that it will be an improvement
on "Windrider's Oath".

The problem I have with Windrider is that Weber tried to tell too
many stories at the same time, so he didn't have space to do a
good job with any one of them. Thinking back I think what I
particularly liked "Oath of Swords" and "Wargod's Own" was the
incidents along the way as Bahzell was on his travels. With
so many stories at the same time Weber didn't have time to
develop them enough.

Being 'as bad as _Windrider's Oath_' would make it a pretty
good book, and I'd say that it's actually better. It
certainly advances the series as a whole very nicely.
