YASID lizard aliens at war

I would have read this novel late in the 70's or early 80's. Humans are in a long war with a lizard like alien race and are loosing. There's a plan to breed a super Human from four different races of human. I remember a scene where a woman is reading a manual on how to perform sex and the manual is all about how to connect two space suits together from when her "race" lived in space suits. One of the grandparents for the super human was captured in the steaming jungles of Earth and is sure he will die right after siring one of the parents of the super human.

I distinctly feel like I've asked this before, but google isn't cooperating in finding all of my YASID posts. Title and author would be great.

I have no idea of the answer, but that bit there sure raises some questions
about childbirth!
