But in book 6, Snape was able to take 70 points off of Harry Potter DURING the opening feast! In book 2, Snape took Harry and Ron OUT of the opening feast in order to scold him over the flying car, so according to book 6, it seems to me that Snape could have deducted points on that occasion.
