Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - A Swashbuckling Adventure
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 fantasy swashbuckler film directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. It is based on Walt Disney's theme park ride of the same name and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, and Jack Davenport. The film follows the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, a rogue pirate who seeks to reclaim his ship, the Black Pearl, from his former mutinous crew who are cursed to become undead skeletons in moonlight.
The film was a huge success at the box office and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Depp, and won the BAFTA Award for Best Sound. It spawned four sequels and became one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time.

The film begins with a prologue, in which a young Elizabeth Swann finds a gold medallion on a shipwreck survivor named Will Turner. She hides the medallion from the authorities, fearing that Will might be accused of piracy. She also sees a ghostly pirate ship, the Black Pearl, sailing away in the fog.
Eight years later, Elizabeth is the daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann and the fiancÃe of Commodore James Norrington, a naval officer. She still has the medallion, which she wears as a necklace. During Norrington's promotion ceremony, she faints and falls into the sea, where the medallion sends out a pulse that attracts the Black Pearl. She is rescued by Captain Jack Sparrow, a notorious pirate who has arrived in Port Royal to commandeer a ship. Jack is arrested by Norrington, but not before he recognizes the medallion as an Aztec coin that belongs to a cursed treasure.
Meanwhile, the Black Pearl attacks Port Royal and raids the town, looking for the medallion. The pirates kidnap Elizabeth, who lies about her identity and claims that her surname is Turner. She also negotiates with Captain Barbossa, the leader of the pirates, to leave Port Royal in peace. Barbossa agrees, but reveals that he and his crew are under a curse that turns them into undead skeletons in moonlight. They need to return all 882 pieces of the treasure they stole from Isla de Muerta, along with a blood sacrifice from each pirate who took part in the plundering. Elizabeth's medallion is the last piece, and they believe that she is the child of Bootstrap Bill Turner, one of their former crewmates who sent one coin to his son before being tied to a cannon and thrown overboard by Barbossa.
Will Turner, who is now a blacksmith and secretly in love with Elizabeth, learns of her abduction and decides to rescue her. He frees Jack Sparrow from prison and persuades him to help him find the Black Pearl. Jack agrees, but only because he wants to reclaim his ship, which was taken from him by Barbossa when he led a mutiny against him. They steal a navy ship, the HMS Interceptor, and head to Tortuga, where they recruit a crew of pirates, including Jack's old friend Joshamee Gibbs.
On their way to Isla de Muerta, they are chased by Norrington's ship, the HMS Dauntless, which has followed them from Port Royal. They manage to evade them by sailing through a storm and entering a dangerous passage known as the Isla Cruces. There they encounter Barbossa's men, who have taken Elizabeth ashore to perform the ritual. Will reveals himself as Bootstrap Bill's son and offers his blood instead of Elizabeth's. However, Jack intervenes and tries to negotiate with Barbossa for his ship and his life. He also secretly switches the medallion with a fake one he made earlier.
A fight ensues between Jack and Barbossa's crews on land and on sea. Will frees Elizabeth and they escape with the medallion on board the Interceptor. However, they are soon overtaken by the Black Pearl, which fires at them and causes them to surrender. Barbossa takes them prisoner and orders his men to destroy the Interceptor.
Jack makes another deal with Barbossa: he will lead him to Isla de Muerta and help him lift the curse if he spares Will and Elizabeth. Barbossa agrees, but plans to kill them anyway after breaking the curse. He also discovers that Jack has tricked him with a fake coin and still has the real one.
At Isla de Muerta, Jack secretly gives back the coin to Will and tells him to wait for his signal. He then joins Barbossa in performing the ritual with his own blood. However, nothing happens because Will's blood is still needed. Jack reveals his plan and shoots Barbossa in the chest. At the same time, Will drops his coin into the chest along with his blood. The curse is lifted and Barbossa dies from his wound.
As Jack celebrates his victory, he is surrounded by Norrington's men who have arrived at Isla de Muerta with Gibbs' help. Norrington arrests Jack for piracy and prepares to hang him in Port Royal. Will confesses his love for Elizabeth and decides to rescue Jack
