ABC And Marvel Eying Avengers-Themed TV Series
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: After scoring huge at the box-office with its Avengers
movie, Marvel is looking to explore the mythology on the small screen
too. Ive learned that Marvels TV division is in conversation with
ABC and ABC Studios about doing a drama series in the Avengers world.
I hear that the the connection to the Avengers franchise would be
light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature
some of its themes and feel but may not include any characters from
Joss Whedons blockbuster. I hear the project is in a nascent stage,
described as a kernel of an idea, with a number of scenarios
explored, including a high-concept cop show.

Establishing a primetime foothold has been a priority for Disney-owned
Marvel. The company has developed several projects for ABC Studios
over the last couple of years, one of which, a Hulk series, is still
in the works. Search is under way for a new writer to pen the project.

Is this separate from the Jessica Jones series?

Couldn't be any worse than the excruciatingly tedious movie.

The movie was excellent, so, W.R.O.N.G.O there, Rich.

It sounds so.
That would be the obvious Avengers-but-not-THE-Avengers comic to
adapt. There's Young Avengers, but I don't think this Universe can go
the legacy route, yet. (But using Kid Kang the Conqueror opens all
sorts of doors.) If you want to put together a Legion of Substitute
Avengers, we have War Machine, the Abomination, and Lady Sif, if not
the Valkyrie (with Winter Soldier to be introduced in the next CA
movie). Hey! You could do Defenders without treating them as the joke
group, but the as best heroes they could get.
I doubt they could adapt Damage Control.

I'm far beyond suggesting an anthology series, but the "Doctor-lite"
episodes of DOCTOR WHO suggest we could do an episode or two a year
focused on a different set of characters.

ABC passed on that one.

Ah. It sounds as though they might be reconsidering.

In the comics, Jessica Jones married Luke Cage so we could have
Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Danny Rand, Colleen Wing, Misty Knight and
Shang Chi as characters. Maybe they could throw in Maria Vasquez and
Paul Denning too. Basically they would resemble their comics
character but they wouldn't wear costumes or masks or go by code names
because that would be silly but they could follow the detective
agency / heroes-for-hire motif from the comics. It could work.
Basically they would have cases that would be set in the Marvel
Universe so it would also be like a Marvel Universe version of the X-
Files or Fringe but with an ensemble cast.
