UPDATED: Updates and Confirmations on Marvel Casting!
Swank-mo-tron wrote this kick-ass post

An incredibly trusted and wise source of Big Shiny Robot!s has
consulted his trusted and wise source at the Marvel/Paramount camp
about the recent flurry of casting rumours that have plagued the
internet in the last week (yes, were guilty, too.)

Here is what our good friend had to say:

According to MY studio guy, the rumors about Chad Michael Murray
(One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural)
and other unknowns/television actors reading for Cap are true.

Apparently, when the script came in with World War II sequences
(featuring the Invaders), the studio heads decided it was beyond their
means to make this movie AND afford A-listers like Brad Pitt and Matt
Damon.

Sure sounds like everyones high on McPartlin, who evidently just
lost out on the Superman role to Brandon Routh.

As for Spidey, the Logan Lerman rumors are just that rumors.
Apparently Sony is waiting for James Vanderbilts script to come in
(hes balking on whether Peter Parker is still in school or just out).
And they havent even come to terms with director Marc Webb yet.

McPartlin looks the part more, and he's been pretty much playing the part,
personality-wise, on Chuck. I'd pick Padelecki over Ackles for Captain
America.

Vancouver based Canadian actress. So almost always a background or bit
player in US productions. (Little surprised she doesn't have a Stargate

existence for at least one guest shot or background appearance.)

So, since Padalecki is wholly inappropriate for Captain America (he'd

saying that Ackles is inappropriate for Cap, too?

Yes, you can. In a lot of episodes of Everwood, season 2 (and a bit
of season 3), as underage Ephram's college-aged girlfriend (and his
sister Delia's babysitter). Perhaps the single most important
character in the series who was not a lead.

There's a huge reason that I want Ellie to be the next one who finds
out Chuck's identity: because it might just lead to more screen time
for Lancaster, who I think is criminally underused.

I agree we need to find more work for Lancaster, but that's exactly why
I *don't* want her in Captain America, which I hope ends a lot of

IT'S THE FREAKING 1940S! HE'S CAPTAIN AMERICA!! IT'S A SET UP FOR THE

If you're embarrassed by the costume, you shouldn't be making a Captain

I can't believe this is the same director that made the Rocketeer, that
fought Katzenweaselberg for the helmet, that staged the shot of Cliff

Captain America To Wield Shield, Microphone In New Movie

Wondering how the upcoming Captain America movie will fulfill its own
hype about being unlike any other Marvel movie to date? It'll be by
having its titular hero singing and dancing. And, no, we're not joking.

Director Joe Johnston told the LA Times' Hero Complex blog that the
musical Cap came about through problem solving:

The costume is a flag, but the way we're getting around that is we have
Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit. After he's made into this
super-soldier, they decide they can't send him into combat and risk him
getting killed. He's the only one and they can't make more. So they say,
'You're going to be in this USO show' and they give him a flag suit. He
can't wait to get out of it... So he's up on stage doing songs and
dances with chorus girls and he can't wait to get out and really fight.
When he does go AWOL, he covers up the suit but then, after a few things
happen, he realizes that this uniform allows him to lead. By then, he's
become a star in the public mind and a symbol. The guys get behind him
because he embodies something special.

As Johnston says, that explanation "was never in the comics... because
they didn't really need it. In comics, he puts on the costume and the
reader just justifies because of the nature of the medium," which may
miss the point that, in the comics, he wore the costume for propaganda
and morale purposes after becoming a super soldier, which seems an
easier solution to us. Nonetheless, we're already fearing the musical
Cap bodes ill for all but those who loved Jazz Spidey from Spider-Man 3.
That low rumbling you're hearing is the start of fan revolt.

Actually it sounds like they'll switch to a version of Ultimate Cap's
costume, which fits with them using what was basically Ultimate Doctor
Doom, and will probably look better in live action.

didn't mesh with their powers. What's Captain America's reason?
