Yes or no..Is Duncan's hair ( that long pony tail, and assorted no
pony tail-hair-blowing-in-my-face scenes) real or fake? I would bet
money that is is fake, and looks terrible. How else could they film
the flashback scenes? Opinions?

Last season, they couldn't.... just look at his 1930's flashbacks from
the one with the copycat killer.... big 'ol pony-tail stuffed under his
shirt. (and in other flashbacks)

This year, they've been doing much much better at hiding it, but I *think*
it's still long... they just have a better hair coordinator.

And it does look awful when it's long... no respecting wig would look
like that, so it must be real.... :-)

I think a "respectable" pony-tail is one in which the hair is all one
length. Just tieing the back into a tail, and having short bangs is
terrible. It says, "Hi, I can't make up my mind...I want two styles."
It all has to go back...Bangs, over the ears, all of it.

Therefore, 6 months is just impossible. A year at least...(Assuming you
wear your hair fairly short most of the time.)

Well, you've hit on an important clue. In the flashback scenes look
closely and you notice that the hair on the back of his head in short
hair scenes (1) is thick and (2) doesn't end at the nape of his neck
(yes, I noticed this once and looked closely at a video tape of the
recent Amanda episode...it was a boring night :-).

What (I *think) they do is to fold the tail back up underneath and
weave the ends in with the hair at the back of his head. I'd imagine
that a clever hair dresser could do this so that it would be hard to
detect from a camera shot. And I also imagine that they had to thin
out and shorten the tail to make it work. (I hadn't noticed that but
it fits my theory so I'll assume its true :-).

Last year Adrian Paul wore hair extensions. That is to say, they wove
hair into his own to extend the length. This was used for most of the
current day stuff in episodes last year. Though I think they used a wig
in "Mountain Men". Meanwhile, Adrian let his hair grow, so by the end
of the season his hair was long in back, but still growing out on top.
Thus his ponytail in personal appearances.

This year it's his hair in the current day, but mostly wigs in the
flashbacks. The major problem with it now is that it still isn't quite
all one length and it's not long enough to stay out of his face when
it's down. So they mousse the hell out of it. Looks really strange.
He may also have some natural curl they're dealing with, which should
improve as it finishes growing out.

Umm..not unless he cut it recently - I saw him on some sort of French talk
show last season, and he was dressed "modern casual", - he still had a pony
tail. Also saw some pictures of him a while back that were a modeling
thing - long hair/ponytail again. In fact, I think they trimmed it this
year, because it looks a little long in last season's episode. It's not
that much hair to get under a wig for the scenes when he has short hair
during flashbacks. I have hair to my waist, and THICK hair, and can get it
under a wig with a little effort.

Have a great weekend!

Satin

As to the period of time required to get a respectable pony tail - I think
that varies with the individual - my hair grows a good 8-10 inches a year,
and my husband's is faster than mine. If he wished to, he could have a
respectable pony tail in about 6 months - maybe less.

As I understand it, last season Adrian Paul was growing his hair out and used a wig for most scenes. After the hiatus, the producers figured his
hair had grown long enough that they didn't need the long wig for everyday
work even though his hair still wasn't as long as the wig was from last
season. Leastways, that's how I decypher it from the Highlander mailing
list.

Ah yes. The hair controversy. The answer: it depends which hair, and
when.
Early in the first season, Adrian Paul had fairly short hair, and wore
hair extensions and/or wigs. By the middle of the first season, his
hair was longer, but I think he was still wearing hair extensions for
the pony tail, and possibly some of the longer styles. (The long hair
is really funny; in some episodes it's straight, and in others, it's
curly.)

This season, I think he's been using just his own hair, mostly, which is a
lot curlier than the extensions he was wearing, and if you've noticed, has
been getting longer from week to week. He's had to have mostly short hair
in the flashbacks, and I can't tell if he's been wearing wigs or if they've
been putting it up. I'd say that during the second season, any ponytail
we've seen has been all his.

No, it is not definitely a wig, at least this season. In a made for TV
movie that Adrian Paul made over the summer, his hair is also about
shoulder length. And I know someone who went to Vancouver and
interviewed Adrian Paul while he was working on "The Zone". While his
hair was up that day (they were filming a 1930's flashback), she asked
him how long his hair was and he told her it was to his shoulder
blades.
As far as having the patience to do it, if you were staring in a TV
series and were asked to have a certain length hair, wouldn't you
grow it out?
The episodes are filmed one a week, not in some big heap.
