The original Twilight Zone was a 30 minute show that was pretty much in the
fantasy genre though (I'd guess) about 30% of the shows were in the science
fiction category. Twilight Zone in Northeast Ohio was broadcast on WJW, VHF
Channel 8 in Cleveland. As I recall, Twilight Zone's time slot was 8PM or
maybe 8:30 or 9PM on Fridays.

At some point in the early 60s, there was another 30 minute show that was in
the adult fantasy genre. The show in question had a visible host who was
creepy in contrast to the affable Rod Serling. This show had a much darker
attitude than Twilight Zone. I remember three separate episodes of this
show:
1. Actor gets some nifty monster makeup from somebody. After the show, the
actor can't get makeup off. He finds that the somebody has stolen his face
and then died. The actor gets to be a permanent monster.
2. A guy goes down the elevator to some building sub-basement. He realizes
he's in hell and will never get out.
3. Some girl is involved in a murder-mystery play. When she goes to the
rehearsal the other actors are different from expected and they kill her for
real.

As I recall, the TV show was broadcast at 9:30 PM on WJW-TV. I got the
impression that it was not nationally distributed as was Twilight Zone but
was syndicated to just a few stations. The unnamed show was far scarier than
Twilight Zone though it was obviously much more cheaply produced. It didn't
last long; it may be that it was *too* scary.

So, what was the name of the show? I am *not* talking about Outer Limits, a
60 minute pure Science Fiction show on ABC.

Thanks

It could have been 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents', but I'm not sure. It definitely
tended to be more horror oriented than the 'Twilight Zone'.

Could also have been "Thriller" with Boris Karloff.
