How could "The Big Bang" writers get it so wrong?

One of the lyrics to "The Big Bang Theory"'s theme song says that
"nearly 14 billion years ago" "our whole universe was in a hot dense
state". But it's only 2009! They're off by 13,999,997,991 years! How
could they make such an egregious error? I sure hope the theme song
writer got fired for that one, sheesh.
