NBC Renews 'Parenthood,' '30 Rock'; Gives Series Order to 'Do No Harm'
by Lesley Goldberg

NBC has renewed Parenthood and 30 Rock and picked up its third drama.
Jason Katims' critical darling Parenthood has been a sturdy performer
for the network on Tuesday nights and will return for a fourth season.

The ensemble cast -- led by Peter Krause, Lauren Graham and Craig T.
Nelson -- received an early vote of confidence from the network when
NBC ordered two additional scripts, bringing its third season tally to
18 episodes. After moving around the schedule in its second season,
the family drama's February third-season finale pulled a 1.9 in the
demo, delivered its strongest performance since November. Recurring
guest Jason Ritter, meanwhile, is reteaming with Katims for County, a
medical drama about a group of young doctors, nurses and
administrators in contention at the network, which like Parenthood,
hails from Universal Television.

For its part, 30 Rock will return for a seventh and final season of 13
episodes on the network. Despite critical and awards season
recognition, the Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin Thursday night comedy has
seen its ratings erode -- like most broadcast fare -- despite
high-profile guest stars and a second live episode, which notched a
1.6 in the demo, a far cry from the 3.1 mark for its 2010 live
installment. Baldwin, meanwhile, after a series of remarks about his
status with the show and network confirmed he'd return for a seventh
season, which he noted would be the series' last.

Meanwhile, The network has given the green light to its Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde drama Do No Harm, starring Steven Pasquale as a brilliant
neurosurgeon who wrestles with his dangerous alter ego that threatens
to wreak havoc on his personal and professional life. The Cosby Show's
Phylicia Rashad, Alana De La Garza, Mousa Kraish, Michael Esper and
Ruta Gedmintas co-star in the Universal television drama penned by The
Event's David Schulner. Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan exec produce.

The series pickups join JJ Abrams/Eric Kripke's Revolution and Dick
Wolf's Chicago Fire, which were ordered to series earlier this month.

Wait a minute... did NBC actually pick up "County"?

Sorry about that... I have become so desensitized to these long effusive
press releases with their run-on sentences that I completely missed "in
contention".

This guy found work after THE EVENT? Really? He makes the Brandon Rouths
of the world look like West End thespians.

But not for a full season: only 15 episodes.

Did Fox executives move to NBC? It's strangling the shows I like --
the ones it doesn't outright kill. Yet /The Office/ gets picked up
yet again. And the unspeakable /Whitney/.

He was in PARENTHOOD before THE EVENT.

Yeah, I can't believe they renewed Whitney.

So we're all agreed that Clod is as stupid as Charlie Sheen?

So now I'm not only confused about how he got the PARENTHOOD gig *back*,
but also about how he managed to land the THE EVENT lead. It's gotta be
another of those cases of incriminating Polaroids of someone.
