FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1
Does he really play and sing?
A1
Yes. Both his parents are musical. He started a rock band in the fourth
grade. As a youngster he started in musical theatre and his resume as a
tenor, both on and off Broadway, is extensive. In his teens he sang with
the St. Louis Symphony. He is seen singing and playing piano and guitar in
"Eisenhower & Lutz" and "Quantum Leap". He wrote the lyrics for "Somewhere
in the night" featured in QL "Piano Man".

Q2
How did he get into acting?
A2
After high school Scott, son of a corporate lawyer, attended a small
college near St. Louis to do business and pre-law studies where he got
involved with a summer theatre program and performed in "Godspell". He
changed his major and started theatre studies at the same college in
January 1975. At the end of summer '75 he was offered a national tour of
"Godspell" that was to originate in St. Louis. He left school but as the
tour fell through he did more theatre around St. Louis. He decided to go to
New York the following year to seek employment. He went to New York in
September 1976 and almost immediately was hired for a dinner theatre tour
(in North Carolina) of "Shenandoah"; his first professional acting job. His
first Broadway show was "Marilyn: An American Fable".

Q3
Does he perform his own stunts?
A3
Mostly. Diamond Farnsworth taught him well but does some stunts for him.
(In "Necessary Roughness" as well as QL.)

Q4
What are his hobbies?
A4
Not much time for hobbies, as he is a notorious workaholic, but he likes to
play golf, ice hockey, softball, tennis, roller blade and soccer. He has
recently (1994) played in celebrity ice hockey and soccer matches in LA.

Q5
Is Scott really as nice as he seems?
A5
"Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes."
No one has a bad word to say against him. Ever.

Q6
Where does Scott live?
A6
Los Angeles plus a family home in Ojai about 70 miles from LA. He also
has/d a farm in up-state New York.

Q7
How tall is Scott?
A7
About 6 feet tall.

Q8
What is that streak at the front of his hair?
A8
It appeared naturally, virtually overnight, when he was 4 years old and led
to nicknames such as "grandpa", "skunk" and "streak".

Q9
What size feet does he have?
A9
Size 11 (See QL "Dr Ruth" ;-)

Q10
Where does the name Bakula originate and how do you pronounce it?
A10
It is Bohemian in origin (Czechoslovakia) and according to Dean Stockwell
"Bakula" rhymes with "Dracula".

Q11
Is there a musical show that Scott hasn't performed in yet but would like
to do?
A11
He would dearly love to return to Broadway but other commitments and the
problem of re-locating his family to NY deter him from doing that. He is on
record as wanting to perform in Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" (he sang
"Nothing's going to harm you" from the show at the Kennedy Center Honours
in 1993) and would also like to play in "Man of La Mancha" again.

He has been approached to record more albums but has chosen not to
preferring to further his acting career.

Incidentally Scott also sang the National Anthem (which was not televised)
during the Baseball World Series in 1993 and performed two songs from
"Romance, Romance" on the Tony awards show in 1988 (with co-star Alison
Fraser).

He has also just performed in an Aids benefit fund raising concert at
Carnegie Hall, New York performing "Anyone Can Whistle" by Stephen Sondheim
on Saturday 8 April 1995 along with Madeline Kahn, Bernadette Peters and
Angela Lansbury.

Q12
Is Scott interesting in doing anything else apart from acting?
A12
He established Bakula Productions in 1994. The company signed a long-term
agreement with Warner Brothers Television in April 1994 for Scott to
"create, develop, produce, direct and possibly star in a variety of
projects" (St Louis Post Despatch, Oct 1994). Accordingly it is developing
telefilms and series. It also co-produced the play "The cover of life" in
New York late in 1994. Scott would also like to do more directing and find
time to go back to his first love - musical theatre.

Q13
When else can we expect to see him on TV or at the movies in another
starring role?
A13
He has reprised the Peter Hunt role in "Murphy Brown" this season and is
set to make six guest appearances including the season finale on 15 May
1995.

Also in the can is the Francis Ford Coppola film "My Family", in which
Scott has a small role, due out early May 1995. Scott's first top billing
is for Clive Barker's film "Lord of Illusions" LoI's release has been
delayed and it is now due out on 18 August 1995.

In production are a CBS series and an animated musical feature. The series
is called "Prowler" with Scott playing a top-ranking Los Angeles police
detective (Variety, 9 January 1995; Variety 2 February 1995). The animated
musical "Cats don't dance" is set for release in either 1996 or 1997 and
Scott will give Danny, the cat, a voice.

Scott is also developing a telefilm based on the life and tragic death of
Bruce Brian, a Los Angeles anti-gang proponent entitled "Minister of the
Hood" that will be co-produced with Michael Nathanson. (Variety, 2
February 1995)

Several features are in development including "Stanky United" a
father-and-son drama set in the world of soccer. Jerry Colker ("3 Guys
Naked From the Waist Down") will co-write the screenplay. (Variety, 2
February 1995)

A film version of the musical "Nite Club Confidential" is also being
developed, in which Scott will star (Variety, 2 February 1995).

Scott's name has also been being bandied about for a "midquel" of "The
Thorn Birds" (TV Guide, w/b 25 Feb 1995).

Ailsa, one little observation from a classical music buff.

I'm amazed that Scott appeared as a soloist in Mahler's Resurrection
Symphony in 1973. The Symphony has only two solo parts, soprano and alto,
and both need heavy operatic voices (= lyric, for those who know about
these things...) so even if the date were incorrect, Scott could hardly
have sung this as a treble.

Could he have been a chorus member?

As a non-Mahler buff ;-) Yes, this must be more likely. Bearing in mind
your info I shall change this to something less specific.

Perhaps I read too much into a message someone sent me. I'll go check.
