Has anyone else been having server problems or just me?

I was really surprised to have server problems for two days and then
come back and the only messages being spam.

Hi Adrianne,

No server problems that I'm aware of although it has been a bit quiet around
here the last few days. I did get two spam messages yesterday or day before
(today is 03-06). Mainly when I try to check the NG, it just says "no new
messages." The other NG's I frequent have been active.

FWIW,
Steve

We have got to find something to discuss because today the only
postings, besides yours, were all spam! This newsgroup can't be a grave
yard for spam!

Okay.

There are people from Canada here right? Any of them watch "Blue
Murder"? Could anyone tell me if it's been cancelled? "Donna" from Quantum
Leap, Sam's wife, is in that show. I heard it's been cancelled but there's
been different reports ...

Unless it's a Monty Python skit. (that won't be funny if you aren't up
on Monty Python stuff)

Just wanted to let you know that I am back from Sask. Broke bread with
a couple of Mounties. Thought of you when I was in Regina:-)

I've only seen one or two Monty Python ... things ... but I'd like to
see more. I'd especially the first one I saw again since I hardly remember
it and I was too young to understand it.

It looks like my trip to Saskatchewan will be two weeks, 10 days, four
days in Regina and ... six days? in Saskatoon. I am really really really
looking forward to it but I have SOOOOOOO many insecurities about the trip
in general that daily I tell myself that I am NOT going. I have yet to buy
my tickets for anything but I hope/intend to go July 1 or 2nd.
I just wish I could get over the insecurites.

What's to be insecure about? You get on a plane. You get off a plane.
You meet your friend. You wander about. If you don't like your friend
or where you're wandering about - you go wander somewhere else.
Saskatchewan is a big place and has less than a million people spread
over hundreds and hundreds of miles.

If you don't like the landscape in one spot, just go somewhere else. It
will be totally different.

If you get lost, you can always ask a Mountie for directions.

Helpfully? :-)

Well that's easy for you to say, you know where you're going!
I'm kind of depending on him for this trip because I'm not getting a car
-- though it's still and always an option. And I *want* to like him because
I really do like him so I don't want to go out and then find out I don't
like him ... total waste of money. Not that I'm going out there just to
meet him. I know there's lots of stuff to see, I just want to see it all
with him.

I'm *pretty* sure I'm going to love the province. From what I've seen
of it (pictures), heard of it (from my friend and books he's sent me) and
research I've done on my own, I think I'm going to love the place. I really
hope I do.

Nah, that's not it. I've had wanderlust since I was a very little
girl. By the time I was 17, I had hitchhiked all over North America by
myself. (girls did that in the olden days) Did a lot of panhandling to
make sure I could eat in the next city or town. My current car has had
its wheels dipped in the Atlantic and the Pacific. I like to go to new
places and get lost and find my way back out. It's an adventure.

Aw, that's sweet. But remember, an adventure is never, ever a waste of
money.

Well, if you don't like one spot - head to another. I meant what I said
before about heading north. Don't let Saskatoon be as far north as you
get. (if you have any say in it). Saskatoon isn't even the half way
point in the province when you're heading north. Convince your fellow
that you really, really need to go to Candle Lake, or Waskesieu, or Lac
La Ronge. Now that's beautiful country and it smells wonderful!!
Waskesieu is a little on the commercial side for my taste, but it is
definitely a spot where people like to go.

And of course, make sure you spend time out in the country at night.
Get away from the city lights and just look at the stars. It's flippin'
amazing.

Such rigorous honesty!!! :-)

If you don't take the trip, I betcha you'll be trying to find ways to
kick yourself in the butt for a very long time. That will get painful
after awhile. Wondering what might have been isn't all that much fun.

I'm the same exact way. My summers are spent driving in all sorts of
directions to see new things. I went to Canada twice last year each time by
myself. I had directions but once I get into Canada, it's mostly just cross
my fingers and hope. I know where things are in Canada pretty well so I
knew I would never get lost. It's the same way when I went to New Brunswick
with my parents, as soon as we crossed into Canada I just felt confident and
sure of where I was. I knew I couldn't get lost. When we did get lost, I
wasn't driving and I was the one that got us unlost.

My trip to Utah was a waste of money. Perhaps that's because I missed
out on the adventure. I get to hear stories of my families adventures
though! They went to Montana and Vegas! I went to Utah.

I told him that you want me to go up north and, I do believe, that it
was brought up as a possiblity. He's never been to the one lake you
mentioned. Lac La Ronge, I think, so who knows ...
We're going to Regina for four days, a place near there that Corner Gas
is filmed ... That's all I really know. Oh and the Mendel, which I'm
looking forward to. And obviously the RCMP Training Centre. Um ... There's
an archaeology dig some where ... Want to go to that.
I'm going for anywhere between 10 and 12 days.

Trust me, I won't be doing anything wrong!!
I don't want to do anything that will lessen my chances of becoming a
Canadian citizen. I'm leaving my "I Love this Country" backpack, that has
two big Canadian flags on it, home so I don't have any troubles at customs.

I take it you didn't do a solo backpack venture into Canyonlands
National Park. <g>

Then you have a perfect opportunity to take a flatlander local and
teach him something about his home and native land. It isn't all that
unusual for a person from the south to have never seen the north.
Damned shame. It's a beautiful, wild land. A bit like the wild west in
that the people and the land are still "untamed." There is nothing
anywhere in Regina or Saskatoon that is can compare. The crystal clear
lakes, the smell of the air, the islands and channels. You have to
experience it to understand it. There are lots of very unique places in
the south. But the smell and feel of the north is something very
different.

Here's a link to some photos from around the province. I think I sent
it to you before, but the lurkers won't have seen it:-) Most of the pics
on the first page of this link are in the southern part of the
province.

http://www.skyport.com/parkland/skphotos/landscap/landscap.html

Come to think of it - you'll be near Lake Diefenbaker when you travel
between Regina and Saskatoon. The Sand Castles are worth the walk to
get to them. They look really out of place in the surrounding
landscape.

> We're going to Regina for four days, a place near there that Corner Gas
> is filmed ... That's all I really know.

I haven't seen that show yet. My eldest says it's pretty good.

> Oh and the Mendel, which I'm looking forward to.

The Mendel is in ToonTown. It's okay. Has a kind of artsy fartsy feel
about it. Great gift shop:-) Joni Mitchell had her painting debut there
a couple of years ago. There's a lookout point built on the river and
has a telescope for taking in the landscape. About two blocks up from
the Mendel is the Weir. Make sure you guys go there. That's where the
pelicans congregate to fish and play. Took my 'Mercun hubby there. It
was the first time he'd ever seen a pelican up close and personal:-) We
(of course) climbed the fence and went into the restricted area. It's
restricted because if you fall into the river there, the Weir will make
you keep going round and round in one spot. It makes it hard for the
rescue divers to pull your lifeless body out of the river.

If it's not too hard on the budget - spending a night in the Bessborough
Hotel in Saskatoon would be a good idea. You'd want a room with a river
view and a clawfoot tub:-)

http://tinyurl.com/3yujl

The link shows a pic of the Dragon Boat races. Those are pretty cool.

> And obviously the RCMP Training Centre.

Please don't be too disappointed if you don't see any Redcoats wandering
around.

> Um ... There's an archaeology dig some where ... Want to go to that.

There are always digs going on. Some pretty amazing stuff in that there
dirt.

Maybe see if your sweetie wants to go to Moose Jaw and take you on a
tour of the underground tunnels. The rum runners during prohibition hid
out there. Al Capone and his boys were involved in that.

there was no backpack and very little walking, actually. And curse the sun!

Well he KNOWS the North is there. I think it's more like ...
priorities? Maybe. I want to move to Saskatchewan so I can always go north
by myself and see the stuff. And I live in the country here and have a lot
of greenery. I'm not from NYC so it's not like seeing a cow for the first
time.
If he was to ever visit me, I highly doubt I'd drag him out into the
backcountry to smell the air ... It's more likely that I'd take him to
Saratoga, NYC and over east. Priorities.

I haven't seen it either but I want to. Apparently it is very good,
I've read a few TVGuide articles on it, really good reviews!

I love museums and culture. And Gail Bowen used the Mendel as the
setting for one of her murder mysteries.

10 to 12 days. Um ... You sure have a lot planned for me in such little
time. At least 10 to 12 seems like only a little time ... and yet it does
seem like a very long time. But only a few days will be in Saskatoon.
I know nothing of what is going to happen, or at least very little. I'm
letting him plan things. This is huge, I typically hate surprises.

My hotel has a pool ::Beaming::
A night in the Bessborough will be a little tight on my budget, I think.
Think of this way, I get 10 to 12 days at this one hotel and then put my
stuff there. Then while paying for that one hotel, I go to another to take
a bath in a clawfoot tub -- which will cost me upwards of $100 a night? I'm
spending four days in Regina, at another hotel, while still paying for the
one hotel that is holding my stuff and I'm not sleeping in.
No, as much as everyone says the Bessborough is worth it ... for me it's
not.

I'm coming into Saskatchewan on July 1st. I'm going to the RCMP
Training Center on a Tuesday to see the Sunset Ceremony. I think there's a
very good chance of me catching a few redcoats around. It's just a matter
of NOT drooling!

See up until this point I could have forwarded this post but you can
forget it now! No way am I admitting to "sweetie"!
We're going to Moose Jaw, going to see the tunnels. Going to see the
moose outside of Moose Jaw as well ::Beaming::

I have a very difficult time crossing the border in my car because I
have two Canadian flags on it and Canadian themed license plate holders. I
figure if I'm pledging my love to Canada, I'll have a difficult time in
customs. It's not getting in that worries me, it's leaving that I always
have trouble with.

Well if you're going to be there for the Sunset Ceremony, you will

Just replace the word sweetie with the word friend and then send it on.

It's a strange little set-up under the city. Too bad they haven't
opened more of the tunnels yet. Moose Jaw is a fairly small place and
was very little during prohibition - it still amazes me that it would be
the place that anyone would pick for major rum running.

<g>

BTW - out of respect for Diefenbaker (the dog, the man and the lake) -
the walk to the sand castles would be appropriate.

Eh, I don't want to offend. You know?
Course ... I think it'll be really hard NOT to drool. There's also,
apparently, a Sergent's March that takes place at some other time. I'd like
to see that too.

About a year ago my *friend* sent a tape he made of a get together he
had with another friend so I've already seen the tour of the tunnels, I've
been to the RCMP Training Centre Museum -- kind of -- been to it's gift shop
and I've seen a little of Moose Jaw. Did you hear about the fires in Moose
Jaw this winter? Seven business went up in smoke and water damage was done
to the tunnels.
