And how do we know that the Vorlons don't want the suit opened? The only
direct evidence is given to us by Laurel Takashima - is this confirmed by
anyone else? We know that Laurel was to have been a traitor - was she trying
to instigate a war, or remove Sinclair? The only other evidence we have is
the Vorlons previous response to alien contact, and the reactions of other
characters.
The Vorlons (well, Kosh anyway) seem to have the ability to see (or perhaps
they are just recalling) the future. Even if this ability is limited, I would
expect Kosh to know about an attempt upon his life and the ramifications of
his death on B5.
So, what did the Vorlons gain by allowing this to happen? For a start, they
brought Sinclair into contact with someone who tells him of the hole in his
mind, and sets into motion a chain of events we are only just beginning to
see. Perhaps if Takeshima had not left, it would have given Sinclair subtle
hints as to some treachery. The incident also gives both physical and mental
data for the EA to analyse, perhaps in order to directly affect EA policy to
aliens.
So, was this suit opening just a plot device to allow the light to shine out
and Kyle in, or is there something more to it? The Vorlons seem a devious lot,
and it isn't unknown for jms to lead us in one direction just to yank us about
180 degrees.
