A Brit has set a new Guinness world record for TV watching by sitting
through every episode of "Friends" in a total of 83 hours and 40
minutes. I believe I may have sat through around 83 minutes and 40
seconds of the show since it debuted, never for more than a couple of
minutes at a stretch, and rarely on purpose. (I must admit to
stopping a few times while channel surfing to figure out what a
particularly odd line or situation really meant. But even in these
cases I mostly gave up after a couple of minutes and decided I didn't
care that much. And I am probably guilty of a reflex "reflex pauses"
if Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox or some guest star was looking
especially fetching as I clicked by whatever channel was showing the
umpteenth rerun.)

I mean, I could understand if he were watching something worthwhile
like 92 hours or so of "B5"*, but "Friends"? ;-)

Anyway, you can find the full details (with time-lapse pics!) here:

The money quote, from around hour 67: "I should be hating this by
now, but I love it. Has dementia set in?"

I'm guessing that dementia had set in well before he decided to *do*
this. <g>

Regards,

Joe

* In fact, I might take a shot at that myself if I can figure out
some way to make money doing it. <vbg>

Dang! I suppose when I rewatched all of B5 in a marathon session while
I was recovering from surgery I should have documented it and then I
could have been in the GBoWW.

The British - World Champion Couch Potatoes!

Oh, the embarassment . . . :(

Can you imagine the training?

Up before dawn each day watching a couple of episodes before
breakfast. Cross-training with episode of something else. Having a
sports scientist analyse your posture with the latest in computing
technology to see if you can get a couple more minutes viewing time.

I don't think I have the dedication.

Well, since you bring it up... On Comedy Central's entertaining, but
short-lived game show "Beat the Geeks" they had a frequent guest geek who
was a specialist on the subject of "Friends." While I always found the Star
Trek geek and the James Bond geek amusing (if somewhat disturbing), I could
feel nothing but pity for the Friends geek.

Season 1-4 of "Friends" (well, Season 3 not so much) is some of the
funniest TV I've ever seen. With re-runs and the DVD's, I must've
watched the vast majority of episodes 6 or 7 times, and they still
make me laugh.

Why the hate?

Not hate - disdain.

Many do not find it funny.

The difference between immorality and immortality is "T". I like Earl
