Has anyone gotten the Crusade jacket yet? I'm only concerned because the
charge went through last month and I still haven't seen anything. I don't
mind waiting as long as I know the delivery people didn't snatch it.

No, there's not a problem. We wanted to wait until the last of the orders were
in, and then ship everything pretty much at once, which is easier for the
fulfilment house to deal with given the bulk of the items involved.

I think they've either stopped taking orders, or will stop shortly, so stuff
should go out soon.

They did say "for December Delivery", and it's still November.

Reputable organizations DO NOT CHARGE credit cards until they ship the
products. It is disappointing to see that people in B5 would do something
like this.

Have you ever ordered something from the B5 Fan Club, been charged for it and
never recieved it? Unless so, I suggest you be VERY careful about slander such
as that. If you are suggesting that the B5 Fan Club is not a reputable
organization, I suggest you put forth some facts in the matter. I've ordered
from them multiple times, and the only time I had any problem with them it was
because they sent TWO of everything I ordered but billed me once for it. They
ended up letting me keep the second shirt, though I sent back to them another
piece of merchandise. So until you have some LEGITIMATE grievance, I suggest
you back off with such comments.

a) That's not true at all. Most online sales organizations charge at the
time of the sale. For one thing, this gives them some time to check for
fraud or any other weirdness before the product is actually shipped.
I know people in the business and I've dealt with many many others. The B5
people are among the best I've seen insofar as fulfilling their orders
and keeping customers updated.

b) I've been told that December shipping was mentioned on the site and
unfortunately I overlooked or forgot that. Even so, 4-6 weeks is *not*
uncommon.

c) This attitude never ceases to amaze me. I ask a mundane question about
something I ordered, the guy who *wrote* the damn series and made all of
this possible takes time to answer me, and people jump on his back for
reasons I'll never get. I *wish* I got this level of attention from the
people I'm forced to do business with. Regardless, thanks jms for the
quick response and for continuing to bring us fun stuff.

Agreed. For special order items like this jacket, it's common practice to
be charged up front. It also covers them, so they can pay for the jackets
to be made and not be stuck with a bunch of items that didn't sell. To me,
it's *not* a problem. The stuff I ordered from the Babylon 5 Fan Club has
always arrived well packed and undamaged, usually sooner than I'd expected.
On the single occasion when a EA pin was omitted from an order, they
corrected the situation very quickly.

I suggest you break out your dictionary and read the definition of slander.
If JMS or anyone else wishes to sue me for slander they'll quickly learn the
difference between an observation of business practices and slander - after
they pay for their frivolous lawsuit.

Inasmuch as I have had extensive dealings with reputable and disreputable
organizations, I can say without equivocation that REPUTABLE organizations
do not charge a credit card prior to shipment. Check with your Better
Business Bureau or any other organization that monitors merchants. The will
quickly inform you of this fact.

Just because some people do not provide this protection for their customers
doesn't make it right.

What it boils down to is "Do you trust JMS and the Babylon 5 Fan Club to
come through and deliver the jacket?"

I do. End of story.

Small point of order, and no criticism implied of the fan club... but, in
the UK, it's illegal to charge a credit card until goods are despatched.
imo, this is a Good Thing, and avoids many arguments!

However, I'd certainly trust this particular fan club, given jms' position
on dealing with fen. Now, if we were talking the Highlander Store... eeep!
