I heard that you signed the deal to do a new SF-series for a
pay-channel. That's fantastic! At least it's for a channel that will
give you more creative-freedom. I also heard that you can't say much
about the deal yet, but can you tell us which pay-cable network it's
going to be on? I guess I'll have to subscribe!

To specify more than I have -- narrowing it down to just the pay cable
networks, which leaves just HBO, Showtime and TMC -- would constitute an
announcement and subvert the authority of those who should rightly make that
announcement, and without their consent I can't do that.

It's kind of like the early year or so of B5's history, when it was TWCBN, That
Which Cannot Be Named. I'll talk about it more when I can.

Not necessarily - It could have been for one of those /other/ pay cable channels...

Well, you're not going to give us any facts, I guess we're just gonna
have to make up our own.

It will be called "GIANT MUTANT LOBSTERS FROM PLANET X!", staring
Patrick Stewart as the head lobster. The arc revolves around their evil
plot to send the Earth into chaos by moving all TV and film production
to the Alps. Some Canadian guy off the street will play the unlikely
hero, driven to stop the lobsters by the ghost of an famous mountain
climber (Mel Brooks).

Because 99% of the budget will be used for jms' and the two stars
salaries, all the special effects will be done with sockpuppets. And due
to his extensive expertise in evil scheming and infiltrating Hollywood,
Gharlane of Eddore will serve as creative consultant.

Hey, no complaints; it beats the skroddulating fneeb out of tuning
into your newsgroup and seeing a slew of postings from you that
contain nothing but the word "EEP!"

BZZZZT, wrong, sorry for playing.

The pilot movie is "THE MONSTER THAT DEVOURED CLEVELAND MEETS THE
CRAB MONSTERS." The series itself is called "MONSTER SQUAD," and
deals with a group of Teen-Aged Mutant Crab Monsters who live down
in the New York sewer system, subsisting on a diet of alligator pizza.

Early reports agree with this, but Stewart turned the part down flat
when he got a chance to play the lead in an off-Broadway revival of
"THE BIRDCAGE." "MONSTER SQUAD" is currently being rehearsed with
a much cheaper CGI Yul Brynner in the lead, playing Lex Crabthor,
the Boss Mutant Crab Monster, when he's in human form.

Brooks was too expensive; they got another famous mountain climber,
who'd specialized in the Alps right up to the end; his name is Neil,
and as a discorporate non-Union member, he's working for ectoplasmic
martinis.

Sorry, I'm already booked for the "ALF" remake that will star
Charlton Heston in the lead.

My guess: Showtime is the network (it needs a new SF series
to run behind Stargate SG-1 on Sci-Fridays now that The Outer
Limits is done) and Red Mars is the property (we've heard rumors
for years that James Cameron wanted to do it, and JMS mentioned that
the director attached to the project was someone he wants to work
with).

This is a big 'ol guess, though. You never know what it
will actually turn out to be...

[ massive snippage ]

Damn, Gharlane is so much better at making up facts then I am. How was I
to know jms was planing to rip-off Teenage Mutant Ninja Lobsters.
