ANH is in such a compressed timeframe that many dramatic issues were left
unresolved and ESB started so far afterwards that they remained unresolved.
I would like to write some scenes in the Massassi base in which Han,
Luke, and Leia emotionally deal with what has just happened.
The fan fiction could begin and end right there, but there are a couple
other things I'd like to hang off of this.
Essentially Mon Mothma (she IS around isn't she?) says when they get back
from the assault that Rebel intelligence leads them to believe
that the nearest SD is about 2-3 days away from Yavin and that they are
free to do some partying. So the awards ceremony takes place the
following day, and then the plan is to disperse into different directions
and meet back up at a secret location for their new base.
You see, they realize that they have some time to take a breath. The
Empire is hurt bad and they will lick their wounds for a little while and
Mon Mothma tells everyone to savor this opportunity with a little R&R and
such.
So what will happen is Han will take Chewie to his homeworld to see his
kids, and Wedge decides to go off with Luke on a little mindless R&R.
I've got some cool stuff in mind for what Wedge and Luke get into. This
would be Luke's last chance to enjoy himself and be a kid before the
responsibilities of the Rebel Alliance and his newer Force disciplines
kinda sap him of his boyish adventurism. As far as Luke is concerned,
the Force has to do with seeing things without his eyes and some simple
mind projection and not much else. He doesn't know much about the moral
implications or that he will soon be called to training with Yoda. So
meanwhile, boys will be boys! Besides, this kind of thing is perfect for
keeping your mind off of what you'd been through, and where you are going.
Meanwhile, obviously Han and Chewie would get into some trouble on their
way to their destination.
Now, the problem here is that I'm really not a SW canon encyclopedia. I
have story ideas and I know I can flesh out some nice dramatic moments,
but I need someone (or more than one person) to collaborate with me with
SW Universe details culled from WEG and what have you.
So if anyone would like to help me make this story, let me know.
I've already got specific story elements which I am specifically not
revealing here because that would spoil the fun for everyone. Suffice to
say, this story would provide a lot which is missing from the Trilogy:
1) More chewie background
2) More Wedge background
3) More upbeat moments, some comic relief in the ANH tradition.
4) Some much needed katharsis over the death of Ben, the destruction of
Alderaan, the loss of the Rebel Fighters, etc...
It would be a sweet and sour of mourning and guarded optimism.
I know some people would reply to this and say "just do some research on
your own" but I really don't think that would be necessary. This story
is gonna mostly be about charcter. It's just that I want to make sure I
don't screw up any continuity, so I need someone to work with me to make
sure it "fits in" before I finalize it and let everyone read it.
So, again, let me know if you want to help. If someone feels like they
can write fiction then I'd gladly do a full collaboration as long as we
both saw eye-to-eye on what is going to happen. To me, the important
scenes I really want to do are the dramatic fallout scenes, but the other
stuff I don't feel I HAVE to do myself.
That should give you some basis on some things which
occured between IV and V. It's a kinda neat story itself!

Is this one of those kiddie audio stories?
It depends on how you look at it. Is it "Cannon"? I dunno.
But it did NOT have one of those read along books. It was
one of those big records (LP) and it was about, ummm, an
hour long, and chronicled Luke and Han searching for a new
base after the destruction of the first Death Star. Then
it also has the incident at Ord Mantel to which Solo refered
to in ESB when some base commander wished he wouldn't go.
There was an incident with some bounty hunters out for the bounty
from Jabba. He escaped and everything, obviously.
Anyways, I have not listened to it for years now. My Sony system
that I now have does not have a record player, and I am just
too damn lazy, or too busy, to find someone who can record it
off for me to tape.
I don't think I would concider it a childrens book story thing.
I liked it, and if you are wondering, my father got it for me
when he was on TDY once in Germany.
Hope that helped.

Any original cast doing the voices or is that wishful thinking? Plus,
where can I find this? I've got a record player here and I could make
you a copy if you want. I have the ability to encode dolby B or C in the
transfer if you want. I've got a pretty good tape machine that handles
chrome/metal very well.
It sounds serious enough to treat as canon, but I really have to listen
to it to see which gaps it fills and which it leaves open. At the very
least I hope I will have room to do the scene following the battle, from
the sound of it some of the other stuff is out of the question...
