WARNING: ART EXHIBIT SPOILED EGGS AHEAD
Ok, for the most part besides the weather, the show was fantastic.
I loved all the models, "meticulous" could be the phrase used to
describe the type of work involved. Lucas's attention to "aged" detail
works so well with all the artwork on models, costumes, etc. All for
five bucks (student discount) was well worth it, BUT......
* Darth and Yoda could have been displayed a little better.
At least with the viewer in mind, because the disco
lights display made for a very challenging time for that closer
look. It wouldn't have been that bad if the glass wasn't frosted
but it WAS. Oh well
* Arrangement of displays made it difficult to get a good look.
This mostly was because of SO many people crunched in one room.
The room with the blasters/sabres was easy to miss if caught in
the middle of the traffic flow. Solution: Larger rooms with more
capacity. sheesh! ;)
* WHY WHY WHY ** What motivated the organizers of the SW show to
allow the "View from Earth" art exhibit to coincide with SW show?
It was such a thrill experiencing the greats and artifacts of
SW and then to be moved into a surreal artistic interpretation
exhibit was way outta place. WHY even mix the stuff? I'm all for
arty stuff, but there IS a time/place for everything. I found it
very strange that the SW exhibit continued upon passing through
the surreal exhibit. Unfortunately, it was more of Ralph Mcquarry's
stupendous work in addition to a couple models/masks. That stuff
could've been placed somewhere with more priority than at the
end in the corner.
* Anyone buy that large poster for $300.00 in the gift store?
The stuff in the gift shop was pretty much the new/regurgitated
merchandise available at any store, except at the show you pay
a LITTLE higher price. ;(
Anyway, hope it doesn't sound too NEGATIVE. I did have a great time and
encourage all who can get to San Francisco, to check it out. I'd love
to hear some opinions about the added surreal/arty exhibit at the show.
Of course what I write is my own opinion......from a "certain point of
view".
